The second part of the inquest has been cut short due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, leaving William's loved ones again no closer to knowing what happened that morning in 2014. Before the inquest was suspended indefinitely, the court heard more about several known figures in the investigation and from a local man who is convinced he saw William in the back of a car heading away from Benaroon Drive. More from Where's William Tyrrell?
Earlier this year, William Tyrrell’s foster mother was charged with supplying false information to the New South Wales Crime Commission. The hearing has just taken place and Lia was there. In this episode, criminologist Dr Xanthe Mallett joins Lia to talk about what happened and how, while the charge itself was not relevant to William’s case, it did involve the investigation into his disappearance. This episode was produced and edited by Ali Aitken
At the time of our previous episode, two months ago, police were undertaking an extensive, and very public, search of a number of areas in and near William's foster grandmother's house in Kendall, NSW. The search concluded after four weeks without any substantial findings, once again leaving two families still desperate for answers. So what happens now? With Lia once again is criminologist Dr Xanthe Mallet to talk about the current state of the investigation, and what the next steps might be. Also joining in the discussion is media and defamation law specialist Professor David Rolph from the University of Sydney Law School.
A year after the last episode, and two years into the inquest, police have named a new person of interest. Lia Harris talks to criminologist Dr Xanthe Mallett from the University of Newcastle about the latest developments, and about Channel 10 – and this podcast - receiving a subpoena from the court to hand over all files relating to the case. This episode was produced and edited by Ali Aitken
The latest inquest hearings have wrapped up. The court heard some testimony not known about previously including a nasty exchange in the courtroom, more about the transition of the case from former lead detective Gary Jubelin to current lead detective David Laidlaw and for the first time, the words of William's big sister as she grows up without her brother. Lia discusses all of this and what it means for the future with criminologist and forensic scientist Dr Xanthe Mallett.
