Triple Lock

Show Notes

A Sinn Fein TD is describing the removal of the Triple Lock as 'one of the most major decisions' this generation of TDs will make.

Legislation to scrap the Triple Lock passed a first vote in the Dáil last night and will now go to Committee stage.

If enacted, it means members of the defence forces can be deployed overseas without the joint agreement of the Government, the Dail and the United Nations.

Sinn Fein TD Thomas Gould told the Dail history will look back at this moment.

For more on this, Alan Morrissey spoke with the Tulla-based Fianna Fáil Minister of State, Timmy Dooley.
