As the nights slowly get shorter and the days grow warmer, my desire shifts to be behind the wheels of steel driving dancefloors instead of cars on lost highways. My thoughts meander to beach parties, lost parties and boutique festivals with dancefloors ususally under starlit skies. Its these shoulder seasons where the time can't seem to pass fast enough and when I scour my record library for tracks that I think will sound amazing on loud soundsystems! Still though nothing beats a dark basement or a dimly lit warehouse party, these to me always feel the most nostalgic and are always closest to the beat of my heart! This months mix features tracks by, Budakid, Sharem Jay and DJ T. with remixed classics from Joy Division, Madonna and Depeche Mode. Thanks for all the listens, shares and reposts! You my fellow riders are all the best!!! Catch me April 26th in Kamloops BC alongside some the the provinces finest for John Crisco's 40th & the Ultimate Electric Love Wormhole Stage Pre-Party.
More from Midnight Drive
TRANSMISSION 034 // GHOST LAP Wassup pitcrew, October's transmission arrives carrying a few ghosts. Some tracks don't disappear. They wait. The city is quieter now. Summer has finally cleared the grid. The roads are dark, the air is cold, and somewhere beyond the last streetlight, headlights begin cutting through the fog. Concrete after midnight. An unmarked door. Bass bleeding through the walls. A familiar face appearing where it shouldn't. For a moment, the road feels familiar - Then the signal shifts. Old frequencies return. Voices emerge from the static. Something forgotten finds its way back into the rotation. The past flickers through the windshield, distorted just enough to make you question whether you've actually been here before. Don't turn around - Keep driving. Some roads remember you. Keep it smooth. Keep it strange. See you next lap. — your SMOOTHSTRANGER
TRANSMISSION 033 // NIGHT LAUNCH Wassup pitcrew, September's transmission rolls out beneath a different kind of sky. The heat is finally letting go, the nights are getting longer, and somewhere beyond the last set of city lights, the road starts looking less like a destination and more like a runway. This one takes its time. The engines aren't screaming. They're humming. Synths glow against the windshield, Italo ghosts drift through the speakers, and the city slowly falls away in the rearview. No sudden launch. No redline. Just a long, steady climb into somewhere unfamiliar. As the kilometres disappear, the frequency gets stranger—cosmic melodies, machine rhythms, late-night romance and electronic signals bouncing somewhere between the motorway and the stars. The first hour is the departure. The second is what happens after the lights of the city disappear. Keep your eyes on the road. Keep the signal locked. And whatever you do, don't ask where we're going. Keep it smooth. Keep it strange. See you next lap. — your SMOOTHSTRANGER
TRANSMISSION 032 // HEAT MIRAGE Wassup pitcrew, August's transmission arrives through air so hot it starts bending the signal. The city's been baking for weeks now, the pavement shimmering like liquid chrome, and somewhere beyond the last overpass the road begins playing tricks on you. This month's ride lives in that strange space between what's real and what's reflected. Taillights stretch into impossible lines, bass echoes off empty concrete, and every corner feels like it leads somewhere you've already been. Maybe it's the heat. Maybe it's the frequency. Some drivers leave tire marks. Others leave entire highways behind them. Every now and then someone builds a world so complete that generations of night drivers end up following its headlights. This transmission is for one of those drivers. Expect hypnotic grooves, mirage-like melodies, pressure building beneath the surface, and rhythms that drift just far enough off course to make you question the map. Stay with the transmission until the final corner. Thank you, Kavinsky. Keep it smooth. Keep it strange. See you next lap. — your SMOOTHSTRANGER
TRANSMISSION 031 // HEAT WARNING Wassup pitcrew, July's transmission rolls in hot off the grid—Toronto asphalt bubbling, engines coughing in the heat, the whole city sweating under World Cup fever. Somewhere between the final whistle and the after-hours signal, the real race begins. This one feels like an illegal midnight run through a city that forgot how to cool down: taillights bleeding through humid air, basslines rattling beneath the overpasses, strangers in jerseys moving like they're all tuned to the same strange frequency. Expect rave pressure, pit-lane precision, percussion clawing at hot pavement, and synths glowing weird in the rearview. No map. No clean exit. Just heat, speed, sweat, and the kind of groove that keeps mutating after dark. Keep it smooth. Keep it strange. See you next lap. — your SMOOTHSTRANGER
VROOOOOM 🏁, June arrives like a starting gun at midnight. The city's pulse quickens under stadium lights that bleed into our midnight highways. Something's stirring beyond the usual heat... that collective roar of nations, the fever of competition bleeding into our nocturnal escape routes. While they play their games under floodlights, we're carving different paths through concrete canyons. Their stadiums may be full, but our sacred spaces are empty warehouses and forgotten basements where the music hits harder and the night stretches longer. They celebrate goals. We celebrate the spaces between them—the silent stretches where only the underground pulse matters. Let them have their victories. We're busy chasing infinities in the places they never look. your SMOOTHSTRANGER 🖤
