Show Notes
Another busy month for the former Beatles, as October 1992 sees activity from Ringo, Paul and George. Paul McCartney’s collaboration with musician and DJ Youth began in earnest at this time, which would lead to yet another career direction for Macca in the 90s. From classical to electronic dance, McCartney’s wide-ranging palette was once again on full display - while Ringo once again relied on the tried and true. The All Starr Band tour’s successful year was capped by a star-studded celebrity weekend, an Arsenio Hall return and a stop in Sierra Tuscon. And finally at the beginning of December, George received well-deserved recognition from the Billboard awards, celebrating his life and career with the prestigious Century Award.
More from Yesterday and Today
Let’s go back and get em, eh? Yeah. Let’s smash em. I don’t like all this running away, a man’s got to do what he’s got to do. Let’s go back and back and back and back and back and back...to a new phase of the Yesterday & Today Podcast! When last we left Paul, George and Ringo, the so-called Threetles were hard at work on the Beatles Anthology project, taking a dive through the mists of time to revisit their very earliest days. Now this podcast follows suit, as we revisit the beginnings of the world’s most famous band, and head toward the end of the beginning...
It’s the finale of 1993 and Paul McCartney’s New World Tour is on its final dates! After a whirlwind through Europe, Japan and Mexico, Macca’s merry band arrived at its final stop on December 16th, to a massive audience in Chile. While Off the Ground may have underperformed against expectations on the charts that year, Paul live performances continued to set the standard for arena rock power in the 90s, with ticket sales and reviews thriving. No one, Paul included, could have known that this would signal the end of Paul’s touring for the next several years, and tragedy loomed on the horizon. For all its ominous portents, 1993 was another staggering year in Beatles history, and so turns the page to 1994!
As the fourth leg of Paul McCartney’s New World Tour rolls on throughout Europe, George Harrison too finds himself with a momentous trip in the fall of 1993. But this trip is one that only Ringo Starr had taken before - to Springfield, USA to meet the world’s most famous family, The Simpsons!
It’s the dog days of summer I 1993, but as July turns to August and September a flurry of activity in Beatle world keeps things hot. Paul McCartney’s New World Tour enters its fourth leg, while Ringo Starr’s live performance at Montreux gets its own CD release. Most surprisingly, though, was George Harrison’s appearance at Abbey Road studios alongside producer George Martin to launch the CD release of the Beatles of the Beatles’ famed Red & Blue compilation albums. All this, plus an Oprah Winfrey interview with Pete Best as the year enters its final months...
It’s June 1993 and Paul McCartney’s New World Tour is on the move throughout North America! This month, in addition to stops in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Missouri and Michigan, Macca and the band make their way at a very special gig in New Jersey’s Giants Stadium. An extra special occasion, because this show marked the first jointly attended show by Yesterday & Today podcast’s own Wayne and Paul Kaminski! A show to remember from an epic tour.
