Four Women at the Bottom of the Locks: The Shafia Family Murders

Serial Napper | True Crime for the Chronically Tired

Show Notes

In June 2009, four women from the same family were found dead inside a submerged car at the Kingston Mills Locks near Kingston, Ontario. At first, it appeared to be a tragic accident. Their family claimed the women had taken the car for a late-night drive and somehow ended up in the water.

But investigators quickly uncovered a much darker truth.

As evidence mounted, police began to suspect that the deaths of Zainab Shafia, Sahar Shafia, Geeti Shafia and Rona Amir Mohammad were not an accident at all, but a carefully planned act of so-called "honour"-based violence carried out by the very people who were supposed to protect them.
