Squiz Today

Show Notes

Over in New Zealand, voting is already underway for the country’s next election, which is set for 7 November. And it could be a close one - New Zealand’s public broadcaster says it’s the most unpredictable election since it changed its voting system in 1996. So in this Squiz Shortcut, we’ll take a look at how New Zealand’s elections work compared with ours, who’s in the running and what it all means for Australia.

Squiz Recommends:

Perusing: RNZ’s Election Policy Guide for the 2026 New Zealand election, which groups each party’s policies by issue so you can keep track of who’s promising what.

Reading: This ABC article on why the Australia Labor Party doesn’t have a u in the spelling, which is more long-winded than you might expect.
