We're so used to believing that if we want to achieve something, we have to do something. Keep busy, work harder, make things happen. But what if all that doing is actually limiting what we can create? In this episode, Paula and Ellen challenge the belief that if we're not doing something, we're not achieving anything, and explore their premise that space creates. And they're not talking about taking a break to recharge so you can get back to being productive. They're talking about space as a creative force in its own right. They get honest about why creating space can be so difficult. The discomfort. The stories we tell ourselves. The sneaky ways we fill every gap before anything has a chance to emerge. They explore how easily busyness can be mistaken for progress, and what might be missed when we're constantly trying to make things happen. They also share what happened when they gave themselves space in the middle of a working week in Colorado, and what emerged that neither had anticipated. Because what if success didn't have to come at the expense of fully experiencing the richness of life? After all, the purpose of life isn't to complete a to-do list! Their invitation this week is simple: discover what emerges when you create more space. ********** Follow the Softness Revolution on Instagram @SoftnessRevolution If you've got questions or perceptions you’d like us to challenge, we’d love to hear from you. In this first episode of The Softness Revolution, Ellen and Paula challenge one of our most deeply held beliefs: that success has to be hard. Most of us have been taught that success comes from effort and hard work hard, but what if all that striving is actually limiting what’s possible? Ellen and Paula explore what happens when we stop using more effort than life actually requires and introduce a very different understanding of softness: not as weakness or passivity, but as being fully awake and available for life, while using just the effort that’s actually required. Through stories from corporate life, sailing, horses, martial arts and everyday moments, they explore how unnecessary effort shows up physically, mentally and emotionally, and how softening can create more space for intuition, creativity, clarity and life itself. In this episode, you’ll explore: Why we’ve learned to associate hard work with success The hidden cost of striving, pushing and proving What Ellen discovered when she started working fewer hours and getting better results How Paula's racing mind had her driving across town to rescue her mum when she didn't need to Why softness doesn’t mean giving up ambition, boundaries or success How physical tension, overthinking and emotional stories consume far more energy than we realise Why creating space can give us greater access to intuition and insight What horses and martial arts can teach us about softness and power How you can begin your own “softness experiment” in something you do every day
