A marble tile line in a pool was etched from the waterline down, which led to Eric researching the composition and geology of marble and other natural stones. Come to find out, most of them are indeed calcium based, and susceptible to acidic damage.
More from Rule Your Pool
Eric takes a question from a customer who emailed in, regarding disappearing CYA and chlorine in a covered pool. The suspicion is that some sort of bacteria could be breaking down CYA, and indeed, that is plausible. If that's the case, Eric discusses what to do.
Jared Stanley, a pool service pro in Florida, joins the show to discuss his field experiments with forcing calcium out of solution using soda ash as a means of reducing calcium hardness. How do his results compare to the scientific research?
Jarred makes his return to the co-host mic, as we talk about the changes in the industry and what we've learned since starting Rule Your Pool.
Eric is going to debate chemistry with Rudy, the host of the Talking Pools Podcast. Submit your questions and topics!
Eric reads an article from onBalance by Kim Skinner, explaining the math for dosing soda ash vs. sodium bicarbonate to raise total alkalinity, and why alkalinity is measured in ppm of Calcium Carbonate.
