Show Notes

Stu Watts chats with Callan Alexander (aka cln), who is a music producer, mix engineer, songwriter and vocalist based in Brisbane. His original songs and compositions under the cln project have accumulated over 30 million streams to date. He holds a Research Master’s degree in Ecoacoustics, and is currently undertaking a PhD in the same field. His career was kickstarted by winning Universal Music and Budweiser’s Made for Music award. Shortly afterwards he remixed the Odesza hit ‘Say My Name’ which soared to the top of the Hype Machine charts and clocked up a million streams on Soundcloud alone. He has since toured internationally including a performance at Red Rocks Ampitheatre supporting The Chainsmokers alongside San Holo. His music has been released almost entirely independently, but his single Breathe was released through Skrillex-owned label OWSLA.

Topics discussed include:

Why the original idea is the most important part of a song

His focus on sound design when producing

His experience composing a half hour electronic piece for the Queensland Ballet Bespoke program alongside Dr. Katie Noonan

...and more
