Sony just killed physical game discs - and the internet is furious. This week on Hat Chat, we dig into Sony's decision to stop producing disc copies of video games from 2028, and why gamers are losing their minds about it. We break down what this actually means for you: full Sony control over your games, the death of the second-hand market (RIP trade-ins), and the very real fear that game prices are about to spiral with zero competition to keep them in check.
We also compare it to Steam, which has been discless for years - and why that same move barely registered for PC gamers. Turns out console players are just catching up to something PC has already made peace with.
Then we lighten the mood with some GTA 6 talk - what new features might be coming. And we close things out with the story of Mexican fans yelling obscenities outside Ecuador's team hotel... and why you'd never catch us doing that. Probably.
The Hat Chat Podcast consists of a trio of comedy entertainers who run a YouTube channel called 'Hat Films'

We (the super cool Hat Films guys) cover some pretty gross topics in this one, Ross admits he was never a fan of Skyrim and then we hear about the horrific stench of Pokemon competitions and Comicon events. There's some mockery of the latest Tesla event and concerns for trotts favourite categories on the hub. We hope you enjoy and check out all 233 other Hat Chat episodes as this was most definitely your first!
We skip around with ideas in this one starting with Alun's methods in terms of dealing with food stealing seagull attacks. We discuss cars for a bit, even though we know very little about them. We pivot to our favourite dinosaurs and question how real they are and if their bones were planted as an elaborate prank. Then finally onto some bizarre news involving a guy attempting to do the nasty to a poor shetland pony which brings about the fearful idea of someone invading your home to kiss your family pet. It's a weird one and I wouldn't blame you for skipping it tbh. Enjoy!
This week we get into misophonia - including Trott's own experience with it and what frustrates him most about living with it. Then we shift gears completely and talk about the new Pokémon 30th Anniversary cards, and how absurd the prices people are paying for them have gotten.
This week, we discuss the harsh realities of AI technology potentially taking over the human race - but we keep it nice and light, with a sprinkle of animal nature in the form of bears tearing the skin off living salmon. If that's not your bag, we take a turn toward the newly announced iPhone Duo and question both its use cases and its exorbitant cost.
This week we debate the actual point of cloning yourself, using The Prestige as our case study - do you go full Hugh Jackman or full Christian Bale? We then question why the news insists on interviewing random people in the street about serious topical stories, then it's 'curtains for zoosha" as we look into how confusing the internet celebrity space is and how quickly you can fall behind. That leads into a chat about how brutally hard it is to reach the top of YouTube stardom, let alone stay there, and how most internet celebrities seem to appear from total obscurity - Hawk Tuah Girl being the prime example, who had a few months of fame before ending her internet career with an actual crypto rug pull. Naturally, we conclude that's how every creator's career should end.
