Show Notes
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah chat to Petra Bagust, a legend of New Zealand TV, radio and podcasting, and an advocate for living her neurodiverse life out loud. If you grew up in 90s Aotearoa, you’ll know the nostalgia of Ice TV, where Petra cut her teeth creating the culturally iconic show. 30 years on, Petra is one of New Zealand’s most beloved broadcasters, presenters, a media chaplain, and the voice behind two successful podcasts, the award-winning ‘Grey Areas’ and the soulful ‘Sunday Sanctuary’. In this conversation, Petra takes us behind the scenes of her career as she balanced work, family, and motherhood, and discusses her personal journey with ADHD. She talks about her adult diagnosis, how her son’s journey began her own, and what it’s meant to reframe parts of herself she now understands from a wider perspective. From grief to self-compassion, masking to unmasking, and the collision of ADHD with her ‘second spring’ of perimenopause, Petra brings her signature authenticity, spirit, and mana to a kōrero so many will find relatable. This week on Untidy, there are still plenty of laughs, but this one's a rollercoaster, and we've got some big topics to cover. Bean shares the heartbreaking loss of her beloved dog Duchess, who stood beside her through some of life’s hardest seasons, and reflects on the grief and gratitude that come with saying goodbye to a member of the family. Matty has a wholesome family holiday to the Gold Coast, complete with some literal rollercoaster revelations. Then, all of us at Untidy have some big news to share. After five years of living and breathing Untidy, more than 200 episodes, countless laughs, tears, overshares, awards, live events, weird tangents, and one incredible community, it's time to bring Untidy to a close. There's no drama. No scandal. No secret feud. No tea at all (sorry to disappoint). Just Matty and Bean recognising that this beautiful thing has reached its natural conclusion. In this episode, we reflect on what Untidy has meant to us and the whānau that has formed around it. We're not quite finished yet. This isn't the final word. We want that to come from all of you, to be part of the final recordings. Send us your voice notes, favourite moments, memories, or messages so we can celebrate this perfectly untidy journey together. Thank you for being here. This week on Untidy, Hannah and Matty are joined by sisters Rosa Power and Margo Flanagan, the duo behind Two Raw Sisters, known and loved for their cookbooks and recipes, workshops, podcast and their Two Raw Sisters app. They're all about helping people bring 'confidence to their kitchens through time-saving recipes and food that fits their lives.' They chat about food, health, burnout, body image, motherhood, chronic fatigue, and why so many people feel overwhelmed by modern wellness culture. Rosa shares her experience as a high-performance athlete whose pursuit of success led to an eating disorder and RED-S, while Margo opens up about spending years bedridden with chronic fatigue and the path that helped her recover. Together, they explain how those experiences shaped the philosophy behind Two Raw Sisters and their systems that are helping to change lives. The conversation also explores feeding picky children, managing decision fatigue, nourishing yourself while caring for everyone else, and the genius concept of being "intelligently lazy". For anyone who has ever felt exhausted by wellness advice, struggled to prioritise their own nutrition, or wondered how healthy eating can fit into a busy life, this episode offers practical, realistic insights. In this episode of Untidy, Matty reports in live and literally on the ground as she hits the renovation pinch-point, Hannah’s under the weather and leaning heavily on the remedial qualities of Robitussin, insufficient sympathy, and homemade soup. The girls share a listener’s horrifying wine story, and a workaround for avoiding auto-playing your questionable audio choices in the car. Hannah shares a wholesome interaction and faces the dawning of a monosyllabic adolescent. As always, thanks for being here! Send us your weird interactions, accidental flirtations, awkward moments, and peculiar proclivities. We love hearing from you!
