Witchpolice Radio

Summary

A new initiative aims to preserve and celebrate Winnipeg's local music scene through the digitization of Stylus Magazine archives, which have documented local music since 1989. Scott Price, program director at CKW 95.9 FM, announced that the project will culminate in an event at the West End Cultural Center on November 5. The event will showcase the newly digitized archives, allowing attendees to search for bands, venues, and specific shows. It will also feature performances from local bands and discussions with contributors from the magazine's history.

The project emerged from a realization that many local music resources were at risk of being lost, particularly after a near disaster involving a storage room leak at the radio station. Price emphasized the importance of documenting local music history, especially for younger generations who may not have easy access to this information. Alongside the Stylus initiative, CKW is also working on digitizing its extensive collection of local CDs to create a comprehensive local music guide, further supporting the community's music scene and making it more accessible to new audiences.
