Show Notes
In this episode of Bluey's Brisbane, we're taking a look at the Bluey episode 'Fairy Tale' and reminiscing about our childhoods, and what life was like in that wild time known as the 80s. We also talk to Kerry Griffith, the Heritage and Museums Coordinator for the Moreton Bay Regional Council, and has overseen The 80s Exhibition at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum, which is just north of Brisbane. Check out the Seaside Museum's web page for opening hours and more info. The 80s Exhibition is part of the Hot Hot Hot Festival and runs until the end of February. If you're not local you can still get into the groove (Madonna pun anyone?) with The 80s Exhibition's Spotify Playlist. There's also a pretty obscure reference to Dave McCormack (Bandit) and what he was up to in the 80s which we'll fill you in on. You can listen to our full interview with Dave here, or find it in your podcast feed. Bluey's Brisbane is the podcast that explores the real life world of your favourite Heeler family. If you're a Bluey fan, you know the show is all about creative play. Our guest on this episode is Christopher Mannino who is an author, actor and former theatre teacher. Chris studied mythology, theatre, and literature both in the US and at Oxford. He is a digital nomad currently residing in Malta with his wife and two kids. Christopher's new book is called 'Making It Up: A Revolutionary Way to Bond With Kids Through Play'. The book was inspired by Bluey, when Christopher recognised that much of the Heeler's life was based on improv theatre. We'll give you a sneak peak of the book, and a few tips on how you can play more creatively with your kids. Find out more about Christopher, his new book 'Making It Up', as well his other fiction and non-fiction work at his website - www.christophermannino.com 'Making It Up' is available in paperback and for Kindle on Amazon, and the audio book is available on Audible. Our podcast is celebrating five years since we started talking about Bluey and her home town of Brisbane! To celebrate we headed down to Bluey's World in Hamilton right by the river - because they are also celebrating 300,000 visitors through the doors, an extension through to March 2026, as well as a ton of new games and experiences. We also had a chat about some of the things that are floating around the Bluey universe; why the ABC (the Australian broadcaster of Bluey) pulled the Hammerbarn episode, and the research that shows Bluey is making your kids more resilient. A massive thank you to BBC Studios and Bluey's World for the invitation and allowing us to record a podcast onsite. Get your tickets to Bluey's World here. It's that time of year when the fierce rivalry between Queensland and New South Wales comes to a head with the annual State of Origin rugby league matches. And this year we've got ourselves another decider in the three game series! You'd know Dan Brumm's voice - he plays Uncle Stripe on Bluey, but he's also been the show's sound designer across all three seasons. With the Queensland Maroons taking on the New South Wales Blues tonight in Sydney , Dan sat down for a chat about how the game of rugby league was depicted in Bluey. Dan unpacks some of his sound design, and some of the little things that you might have missed in the layers of sounds that make up 'The Decider'.
