Binge-encouraging thoughts don’t make logical sense, but they are tempting to believe in the moment of an urge. You can learn to stop taking these thoughts seriously, dismissing them as untrue and not indicative of who you truly are and what you truly want. It’s helpful to know that you aren’t the only one having thoughts that try to justify binge eating. In this episode, Kathryn shares several common faulty thoughts (from the lower brain) and explains how you can stop letting these thoughts lead you into harmful actions.

What if binge eating feels like a way to cope with emotional pain? In this episode, Kathryn explores why you don’t have to deny the temporary relief or distraction bingeing may provide in order to recover. She explains how emotional pain can trigger urges without making those urges meaningful, and why dismissing urges can actually give you more freedom to cope in healthier ways. Most importantly, you’ll learn that you do not have to handle every emotion perfectly before you can stop bingeing.
This episode explores how to approach the scale during binge eating recovery. There isn’t one right answer about whether or how often to weigh yourself, and Kathryn guides you in deciding what works best for you. You’ll learn why impulsive or compulsive weighing can increase preoccupation and make recovery more difficult, as well as how to handle the thoughts and urges that may come up when you do choose to weigh yourself. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to keep the scale from interfering with the two main recovery goals: eating adequately and dismissing urges to binge.
Kathryn and Coach Julie explore nervous system regulation and how it can support binge eating recovery. You’ll learn tools to help you feel more grounded, make better decisions, connect with your higher self, ride out harmful urges, and avoid letting difficult emotions turn into harmful actions. Regulating your nervous system can bridge the gap between knowing what you want to do and actually following through in challenging moments.
In this episode, I share a beautiful reflection written by a Brain over Binge Group member who is now living free after decades of bulimia. She captures in a profound way what it’s been like to step out of the binge-purge cycle and discover the presence, peace, and ordinary joys that recovery makes possible. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s too late for you to recover, I hope these words will give you hope, help you believe that there is a way out, and inspire you to discover the life that is waiting for you beyond bingeing.
