In this episode, Reps. Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) are joined by Congresswoman Kim Schrier (WA-08), the first pediatrician in Congress and chair of the New Dem Rural Revitalization Working Group. As a doctor, Rep. Schrier has seen firsthand what happens when people don’t have access to healthcare. The members discuss how Congressional Republican cuts to Medicare and Medicaid will not only hurt those who are losing their coverage, but will put a strain on the entire healthcare system. Rep. Schrier also explains how rural communities are especially vulnerable to these cuts, as it has already led to several rural hospital closures. They also discuss the dangerous rhetoric that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pushed for years about vaccine safety, something Rep. Schrier dealt with as a pediatrician and continues to push back against. Finally, they react to a recent campaign ad that Trump aired on television using taxpayer dollars.

This week, co-hosts Reps. Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) were joined by Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) to talk about the cost of living crisis facing American families, from groceries to gas and school supplies. They discuss the urgent need to build more housing to lower costs, and how the recently passed bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was a step in the right direction. Then, Rep. Pettersen updates viewers on her effort to allow new parents in Congress to vote by proxy, which she discussed on The Fly-In last year after Speaker Johnson shut down the House to block a vote on her bill. The Members discuss why it’s so important for Congress to support families and make it easier for young people to represent their communities. Additionally, they respond to Trump’s announcement last week at the Republican Midterm Convention that every American adult will receive a $5,000 “dividend” if Republicans keep their majority—an action that would cost over $1.3 trillion.

Rep. Beyer is also one of the leading experts in Congress on AI, after recently returning to school to get his Master’s in machine learning. The members discuss the many ways in which AI has impacted Americans’ daily lives, and what Congress needs to do to prevent this new technology from getting out of control while still promoting American innovation. Additionally, Rep. Beyer shares stories from another one of his major endeavors: completing the entire Appalachian Trail.

Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) are joined by West Virginia State Delegate Kayla Young, a rising star and NewDEAL Leader representing Charleston, WV and serving as Minority Leader Pro Tempore in the House of Delegates. Kayla is a native of her district and is one of only nine Democrats serving in the House of Delegates, along with 91 Republicans. The group also discusses how Republican healthcare cuts have hurt West Virginians, since 30 percent of the state relies on Medicaid.
