Show Notes
It's always nice to turn back the clock and cherry pick some of the tracks that defined a particular year. Surprising to hear how much the sound and style either has or hasn't evolved. This time we go back five years to 2011. Since this was recorded in April we stick to the first half of 2011. Auditioning tracks for the mix was tough, so much deep soulful quality from the likes of Atjazz, Maya Jane Coles and the Reel People label. Hopefully some of the tracks take you back to the not so distant past and refresh happy memories locked away and triggered by a song. This is a recording of the c2eMusic show on Pressure Radio on 28th April 2016.
This somehow dropped off the podcast.

More from c2eMusic Soulful Deep House
Another recording from a gig I played in Sydney. It was a new event for Night Safari on the rooftop at The Sheaf in Double Bay. Myself, Steve Mack and Tolga Diga were the DJs playing from 6pm to 1am. It had been a beautiful warm day and it stayed above 26 degrees for the whole event. Tolga opened up and got us underway. The mix starts with Tolga's last couple of tracks of his first set. Steve began his first set around the nine minute mark. My first set begins around the 30 minute mark with Detroit Swindle's Monkey Wrench. My first set was a pretty chilled affair on the soulful deep side. I mixed it up with tunes from the last 20+ years. Steve's second set starts around 1hr 35m. Towards the end of his set Steve played a few of his own productions, remixes of tracks you may recognise. He raised the tempo and intensity as he handed over for my final set which starts around 2hr 42m. Check out Steve's tracks on Soundcloud (https://on.soundcloud.com/4hO2bPZLi5Sfboj6av). I opened my second set with a classic from 94 that I'd heard Ellis Mia play in one of his reels the morning before (https://www.facebook.com/reel/1575656207638393). Memories came flooding back and I went hunting for it. Another DJ, Cameron in a Sydney DJ WhatsApp group I created had it on vinyl and ripped me a copy the afternoon of the gig. I couldn't wait to play it. If you haven't already I would recommend creating a chat group for DJs in your city to support each other. My second set is straight up house from the last 35 years, so much fun to play. Most of it was lost on the younger people in the crowd, but they gotta start somewhere! This recording ends towards the end of the set, you'll need to wait for pt2 to hear the rest along with Tolga's final set that took us through to close. We will be doing this gig on a monthly basis so look out for future recordings. For now sit back and enjoy our summer rooftop session.
For this weeks radio show I played my two VBW sets from 2018 and 2019 into one two hour show. I also finally got to fix a screw up from the 2019 set when I accidentally stopped the wrong deck on the first transition! I was mortified at the time and it took a few tracks to get out of my head and back into it. I also extended the end of the 2019 mix so the last track plays in full. Both mixes are very tight as I tried to cram as many tunes in each as possible. There are at least 35 tracks in this session as a result I reckon.
This is the recording of a set I recently played at Lilly's Bar in Brookvale on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. The first 40 minutes are the excellent Lili Joy who the bar is named after. It's actually a gin distillery and bar. The dancefloor has a really high ceiling and the walls are covered in barrels of gin! It's a heavier mix, only the first three tracks are soulful, the rest are deeeeep. ✊🏾
A Masters At Work session. Sounds like such an obvious choice but i's 20 years since the last one! The previous two were both curated (to within an inch of their lives!) so the tunes were packed in with shorter transitions. This is a radio show session so tend to play the tracks in full, let them breath and be heard as intended. There are some tracks from the last two MAW Sessions but plenty of tunes that have come since, mainly from Louie. Plenty to sing along to, it's hard to go wrong with MAW, so much quality to chose from.
This mix was inspired by the opening track. Ralphi Rosario posted it on FB which made me curious. I've always wanted it so when I saw it had recently been released digitally I grab copy. On the night of the show just before going live I realised I didn't know where the other digital versions of my old early 90's NY house/garage were. As a result I started the mix off with Bardot and figured I'd find them as the show went along. This proved massively time consuming as my collection is in Rekordbox so I had to look manually using windows explorer on my desktop. As a result I almost ran out of track a few times and had chuck a few loops in. It also meant I couldn't play the tracks in an order I prefer. It was a case of playing what I could find when I found it. I want to do this mix again but programmed properly. I think it will be a timeless classic like so many of the tracks on here. I'd also bought a few new tracks just before the show, so I switched with about 30 minutes left and played the new stuff. It transitions well, but you can really hear the difference in depth between the two genres. I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I have these past couple of days. and some of your favourites from back in the day are in the here.
