Summary
Jeff and Paulette Karpov, a couple from Northern California, plead guilty to orchestrating a massive Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors of nearly $1 billion through their company, DC Solar. Initially, Jeff Karpov, a former mechanic, found success by inventing a mobile solar generator, which gained traction among investors, including major firms like Berkshire Hathaway and GEICO. However, the operation was built on fraudulent practices, including inflated demand and fake lease agreements.
The Karpovs exploited tax credits and manipulated financial documents to maintain the illusion of a thriving business. Despite early success, the company faced mounting issues as many of the generators were non-existent or malfunctioning. As the scheme unraveled, an internal whistleblower alerted authorities, leading to a federal investigation. In December 2018, Jeff was arrested after attempting to flee, and both he and Paulette were later sentenced to significant prison terms. The case highlights the dangers of unchecked ambition and the importance of due diligence in investment decisions.

Some corrections: Sony created the CD in collaboration with Philips. I was supposed to say "true era of 3D console gaming" for the PlayStation part.
