Hypno-WHAT?! Modern Hypnobirthing with Claire.

3. The Fear-Tension-Pain Cycle & Building a Positive Mindset

Hypno-WHAT?! Modern Hypnobirthing with Claire.

Show Notes

In this episode we'll be looking at the concept of the Fear-Tension-Pain cycle and exploring the impact being afraid can have on birth. I'll also be talking you through my thoughts on the language we use to describe the sensations of labour.

To accompany this episode I have released a wee bonus for you: a guided relaxation focussing on releasing fear & anxiety. It's nice & short; a perfect listen for winding down before bed.

We round off this episode by going through 5 different tools you can use to start working on building a positive mindset around birth. As mentioned in today's episode, my favourite podcasts for excellent information on all things birth:

The Midwives Cauldron (an absolute gold mine; eye-opening & mind-blowing chat from 2 incredible midwives, I listen to this every week and regularly refer clients to the episode 'Pushing & Cervixes')

Evidence Based Birth (another gold mine of, you guessed it, evidence based birth information)

Moon & Stars Hypnobirthing (Faye is super down to Earth and doing amazing things for spreading the good word of hypnobirthing!)

and keep your eyes peeled for my lovely pal Nicola's podcast launching very soon - The Get Birth Confident Podcast!

If you enjoy this episode, I would be so delighted if you could take a couple of minutes to rate & review the show. It tells the podcast gods & goddesses that my content is useful and helps it reach more people, spreading the good word of birth far & wide!

I would also love for you to connect with me on insta at www.instagram.com/birthingparentsclub to keep track of what I'm up to and see what Birthing Parents Club has in the pipeline!

In this episode, I’m talking about identity and how it’s shifted for me as I've gone back to work and what it means to find myself beyond motherhood. Lately, I’ve been feeling the contrast between the confidence and contentment I found during matrescence, and the self-doubt that’s come with stepping back into my family business where I no longer feel like the expert. I share some personal moments that have really highlighted this for me including a pretty confronting experience at a climbing class where I felt completely out of my depth. These experiences have made me reflect on how uncomfortable growth can be, and how easily my inner critic jumps in when I’m in unfamiliar territory. I also talk about how the mental and physical load of parenting can make all of this feel even harder, and how our brain’s negativity bias can convince us we don’t belong when we’re actually just learning. This episode is a bit of a brain dump, but also a reminder (for you and for me) that it’s okay to be in the messy middle of figuring out who you are.

After attending a beautiful, totally hands-off, zero-intervention VBAC on the labour ward at the weekend I felt drawn to share my thoughts. This is a little debrief of my experience of birth on the labour ward.

Today we're exploring the idea of 'having a hypnobirth'; what the stereotypical idea of a hypnobirth is and how useful I think that is! Spoiler - I don't think a hypnobirth is a thing.
