Ep 1424 | A Dream Gig with Hank Williams Jr. Sparks a Controversy About Our Place in Culture
Unashamed with the Robertson FamilyShow Notes
The Dasher family gets a full-circle surprise when Zach’s son and daughter land a dream gig opening for Hank Williams Jr., the same artist who soundtracked Zach and Jill’s first date. Jase, Al, and Zach also challenge the divide between “sacred” and “secular,” arguing that faith should shape the way people work, create, serve, and relate to others in every part of life. The guys dig into why disagreement so often turns into alienation and why burning every bridge over differences can do more harm than good.

More from Unashamed with the Robertson Family
A dangerous conspiracy theory about a school shooting pushes Zach to confront a man he knows personally, and the response is even more disturbing than the claims themselves. Jase and Al join Zach in examining America's obsession with conspiracy theories, political battles, and other distractions that keep people from confronting problems in their own lives. Meanwhile, Jase's morning descends into chaos involving a fire truck, a terrifying spider, and losing some hair. The guys also dig into the book of Jude, exploring the strange biblical accounts of fallen angels, sexual immorality, and the forbidden boundaries between the human and spiritual realms.
Phil kept walking while his bodyguards handled an unexpected encounter so quickly that almost no one noticed, but Al remembers the moment vividly. The cheese feud heats up again when Al brings back reinforcements from Sargento, while Zach insists name-brand cereal made the Robertsons look rich when they were kids. Al recounts how a room full of singing Marines energized him after an exhausting week. Continuing their study of Jude, Jase, Al, and Zach challenge cruise ship Christianity, online arguments, and the habit of labeling everyone who disagrees as a false teacher.
Jase reluctantly agrees to officiate a family wedding, but a powerful story from Missy's family about a 70-year marriage and one unforgettable goodbye turns the ceremony into something much more meaningful. Jase, Al, and Zach discuss the four qualities every lasting marriage needs, as Jase also reveals his unique method of dealing with marital frustrations. Al reflects on the struggles he and Lisa faced before rebuilding their marriage through faith, and the guys begin their study of Jude, connecting its warnings about false teachers to the challenges of remaining faithful in marriage and in life.
Willie’s rebellion against Phil turned into a lifelong habit, and one his kids are still benefiting from. Al, Zach, Christian, and John Luke connect the Robertson family’s life to “The Odyssey,” from Phil and Miss Kay’s open-door hospitality to Al’s unforgettable memory of his dad coming home. Zach discovers a surprising way to impress his wife, while John Luke admits the Robertsons don’t take kindly to being told what to do. The guys consider why sons need their fathers and where people can find love and belonging when their earthly fathers fall short.
Jase’s late-night Bible study takes a personal turn when a puzzling verse about baptism for the dead brings Phil’s passing into focus. Al returns from Colorado with stories of Doc Holliday’s grave, Teddy Roosevelt’s hotel suite, and a secret escape tunnel built for Al Capone. Zach connects an Old Testament promise about God’s glory to the way believers live today. The guys wrap up James with a discussion of prayer, resurrection, and why the faith vs. works argument misses the bigger picture.
