Deep in Ethiopia’s highlands, the ancient city of Axumharbors megaliths that rival the grandeur of Egypt and Peru, yet remain relatively unknown and unexplored. In the premiere episode of my series on Ethiopia’s ancient sites, I will explore the awe-inspiring Northern Stelae Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, including Axum’s massive 500 tonne obelisk. From false doors and windows mimicking multi-story towers, to precision engineered subterraneanchambers, these structures hint at a sophisticated ancient culture. Could Axum’s history stretch far older than the 1st–4th centuries AD, as mainstream archaeology suggests? Join me as we uncover Ethiopia’s striking similarities with global megalithic sites all over the world, challenge conventionaltimelines and explore Ethiopia’s hidden past.

What lies beyond the tourist trail on Easter Island? In this episode of Secrets in Stone, I hike more than 11 miles across the remote northwest coast of Rapa Nui to explore moai, megalithic walls, ancient ahu, lava caves, petroglyphs and archaeological sites that most visitors never see.We begin at Ana Te Pahu, one of Rapa Nui’s extraordinary lava-tube cave systems, before entering the remote archaeological landscape around Ahu Te Peu. From there, we follow the wild coastline north through a landscape filled with unrestored monuments—including the island’s largest surviving boat-house foundations, enormous dressed stones, reused moai and some of the finest megalithic masonry I encountered anywhere on Easter Island.Along the way, we visit Ahu Maitaki te Moa, where an entire moai was incorporated into a later ahu wall, and Ahu Vai Mata, home to an enormous fallen moai and extraordinary stonework that immediately reminded me of the famous wall at Ahu Vinapu and the megalithic construction of ancient Peru. We’ll also return to Katherine Routledge’s mysterious account of Ara Mahiva, an ancient coastal road said to have encircled the island, and ask whether some of the monumental remains along this remote coastline could preserve a much older chapter of Rapa Nui’s history. And throughout the episode, you’ll hear ancient Rapa Nui stories directly from our guides Alejandro Pakarati and Elena Delgado of Easter Island Expeditions. This is Easter Island away from the restored monuments, buses and crowds—a landscape where archaeology still lies scattered across the ground exactly where generations of people left it.Watch Part 1: Easter Island: Older Than We Think? What if the accepted timeline of Easter Island is backwards?I traveled to Rapa Nui to investigate the island’s giant moai, ancient roads,Rano Raraku quarry, the megalithic wall of Ahu Vinapu – and found lots of evidencethat may point to a much older history than we’re being told. In this episode of Secrets in Stone, I travel to EasterIsland / Rapa Nui to explore the deeper mysteries behind the island’s famousmoai, the sacred quarry of Rano Raraku, the ancient roadways, and theextraordinary megalithic masonry of Ahu Vinapu. Rather than simply repeatingthe standard archaeological story, I look closely at the evidence used to datethese monuments and ask whether some of the island’s largest and mostsophisticated structures could represent an earlier phase of construction. We examine the enormous moai still standing and buried atRano Raraku, including Moai 156 and 157, whose excavations revealed engineeredbedrock installations, multiple phases of carving, later petroglyphs, and amuch more complicated history than a single construction date suggests. We alsolook at the differences between the giant quarry moai, the statues erected onahu, and the mysterious moai found along the ancient roads—along with thefamous “walking moai” experiment and Katherine Routledge’s alternative ideathat these roads may once have been monumental ceremonial avenues leadingtoward a sacred Rano Raraku. Then we look more broadly. Why does the mortarless, irregular basalt masonry at Vinapu look so similar to megalithic stonework inPeru? Why do the moai share such striking body proportions and hand positionswith anthropomorphic monuments at Göbekli Tepe, Tiwanaku, and other ancientsites around the world? And why do Rapa Nui traditions preserve stories of alost homeland called Hiva, seven explorers, supernatural power, sacred roads, and a new land remembered as the “Navel of the World”? This episode explores the possibility that Easter Islandpreserves multiple layers of construction, reuse, symbolism, and culturalmemory—and asks whether the giant moai and megalithic structures of Rapa Nuicould be older than the conventional archaeological timeline currently allows. If you’re interested in Easter Island mysteries, ancientcivilizations, alternative archaeology, megalithic construction, Göbekli Tepe, lost civilizations, ancient technology, Rapa Nui legends, and the true historyof the moai, this episode is for you. Today we are exploring the mysterious "Lightning Pyramid" of Ta Keo in Cambodia — a massive five-tier structure built with an incredibly rare, ultra-hard sandstone that glows white at the top. The only pyramid in Cambodia made from this material. Official history says it was built in 975 AD, struck by lightning, and abandoned unfinished. But after walking the site and examining the evidence, I believe this pyramid was completed — and served a far more sophisticated purpose. Join me on the ground as we examine: • The extraordinary stonework and hundreds of mysterious spindles • The unique weathering patterns inside the towers • The carved sockets and mounting points under the pedestals • The tight water moat and connection to the giant East Baray reservoir • The inscriptions that may have been misinterpreted for over a century.I break down the official story, the geology, and why I believe Ta Keo may have been part of a much larger, older, and more complex ancient system. If you're into ancient mysteries, lost technology, and questioning mainstream archaeology, this one is for you. ► Join us boots-on-the-ground in Cambodia & Laos – January 2027 Tour - https://www.royalangkor-tours.com/tours/mysteries-of-cambodia-tour-laos-extension-secretsinstone/ ► Gaia Ancient Civilizations Conference August 1: https://marketplace.gaia.com/products/ancient-civilizations-conference-2026 ► Watch my full presentation from the Quest for Ancient Civilizations conference for more on Cambodia's pyramids: https://youtu.be/S0Bz7yyXzMQ?si=hWL9KY_52G9q4rgV
🚨 Join me as I take you to one of Peru’s most intriguing and least-known megalithic sites — Tarawasi. In this episode, you’ll get on-the-ground footage of the site plus my exclusive sit-down interview with Brien Foerster right on the steps of Tarawasi — his very first visit. He shares his first impressions, thoughts on possible pre-diluvian origins, and comparisons to other megalithic sites across Peru. Located just 70km west of Cusco, Tarawasi features a massive 100-meter outer wall built in a stunning honeycomb pattern with precision-shaped andesite blocks, a raised platform with 28 trapezoidal niches, and clear evidence of multiple construction eras. We examine the differences between the sophisticated megalithic work and later Inca-style repairs, discuss the site’s unusual northeast-southwest alignment, unusual stone damage possibly linked to an ancient cataclysm, and why the official “mid-1400s Inca tambo” story rests on surprisingly thin evidence. We also touch on the elongated skulls and other mysteries from our unforgettable week together. 👉 Join Derek Olson and me in Cambodia January 2027! https://www.royalangkor-tours.com/tours/mysteries-of-cambodia-tour-laos-extension-secretsinstone/ 👉 Brien Foerster’s tours & books: https://hiddenincatours.com/ 👉 Brien Foerster’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@brienfoerster 👉 Sorcerers in Stone YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@sorcerersofstone If you enjoy these explorations, please subscribe, hit the like button, and turn on notifications so you never miss an episode.
