Beau Neilson on MyGigPass, how we get more young people enjoying live music, & more
Homebrewed: An Australian Music PodcastShow Notes
This week we’re joined by Beau Neilson to hear all about MyGigPass. MyGigPass is an awesome new initiative aimed at getting more young people seeing live music. The initiative works by offering a platform where venues and artists can offer up free or discounted tickets to shows to 18-25 year olds that have signed up. MyGigPass has been put together by the Live Music Venues Alliance with support from the NSW Government; and in its early months is seeing strong adoption from both venues and punters.
We (mainly Cam, actually. Eamonn had internet issues) dive into the nuts and bolts of MyGigPass and also explore Beau Neilson’s journey, including the many important roles she now holds within NSW and Australian music.

More from Homebrewed: An Australian Music Podcast
Things get pretty bleak in this one, so apologies, but stick with us if you can. We talk about two new reports. The first is largely positive, and shows that four in five Australians want legislated copyright protections against AI companies. We go through the data, and reveal some data points we found interesting. We then move onto another report, which shows that Australian's made more music last finanical year (yay), but very concerningly, most music (91%) consumed in Australia is created overseas. Adding to the concern, Aus music listenership has declined by over 35% in the last five years. YIKES! Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe for more content. This week, we’re stepping away from artists to check in with someone who plays a crucial role in our music scene. Over the last few years, Shanae Milne has poured herself into the local and national music industry - first as a punter and now as a professional. Whether she's running workshops for local emerging artists, managing socials for national icons, or documenting her own experiences attending more than a gig a week (!) every year. Shanae is an ever present figure in the scene, and that naturally brings a wealth of insight. In this conversation, we dive into the hilarious story of Shanae’s entrance into the industry and her experiences working with artists, industry bodies and in pushing her own content. We also get her take on some of the biggest conversations in the Australian music scene right now + a bunch more. Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe for more content. The New South Wales live music scene is officially stepping into a new era! After a turbulent decade marked by the 2014 lockout laws and severe COVID-19 restrictions, the NSW Government has passed the landmark Contemporary Music Act 2026. In this episode, we break down what this historic legislation means for local artists, venue owners, festival organisers, and music lovers across the state. We also have a quick debte about AI, and if given the choice, would we erase it? We then take a brief look ahead to this weekend's Gossy Weekender, highlighting the brilliant three-day community music festival held in Gosford on the NSW Central Coast. Like for a like, TBH, rate, etc etc. Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe for more content.
