Stop Moving the Finish Line: The Real Cost of Missed Deadlines in Your Business

The Pursuit of Badasserie: The Podcast

Show Notes

We need to talk about something every entrepreneur struggles with—and most won't admit. We set the deadlines. We're the boss. Yet somehow, we're still the ones letting them slip. In this episode of The Pursuit of Badasserie, we explore the Deadline Dilemma: the paradox of leaving corporate life for freedom, only to realize that without external accountability, deadlines lose their power. We've seen it in our own businesses, inside the Badass Amplifier, and with entrepreneurs at every stage. The good news? There's a way through it. Not all deadlines are created equal. We break down the difference between hard deadlines with real consequences, self-imposed deadlines that often drift, and fake deadlines that simply create the illusion of progress. Knowing which type you're working with changes how you approach execution. Missing deadlines isn't always about laziness or poor organization. High performers often struggle because they overcommit, underestimate capacity, and say yes before counting the cost. It's a pattern we've seen repeatedly with clients across industries and around the world. The most capable people are often carrying the heaviest loads. Every time we move a deadline, we pay a price—in trust, client confidence, team morale, and our own self-belief. Launches get delayed, events suffer, and opportunities disappear because we assume we have more time than we actually do. Life happens. Business happens. Buffer isn't optional—it's part of the strategy. We aren't here to make you stressed. We're here to help you become more strategic. That means reverse-engineering timelines, building margin before chaos strikes, delegating earlier, and treating business deadlines with the same seriousness as payroll or taxes. Done beats perfect every time. We've published books, launched programs, and experienced the perfection trap ourselves. Even after multiple editors and rounds of proofreading, our first book still had typos—and publishing it was still the right decision. If we'd waited for perfection, we'd still be editing instead of serving people. Corporate deadlines work because someone is watching. Entrepreneurs intentionally remove that external pressure, then wonder why nothing gets finished on time. Whether it's a coach, business partner, mastermind, or the Badass Amplifier, accountability is often the missing ingredient. Key takeaways: • Deadlines should connect to goals, revenue, or real consequences. • "I don't have time" is rarely the real reason a deadline gets missed. • Sometimes the disciplined choice is eliminating the deadline—not forcing it. • You practice how you play. Small habits shape bigger outcomes. • Always build buffer because life won't follow your schedule. • Done is better than perfect. Ship it. Is your business broken, or is it you? If you keep changing your pricing, redoing your offer, or hiring help and nothing improves, the real issue may be a "you problem," not a business problem. In this episode of The Pursuit of Badasserie podcast, we share the three-part diagnostic we use with clients: the Numbers Check, the Replacement Check, and the Pattern Check. We cover how to diagnose business problems, the common disguises founder issues wear, and how to be honest with yourself without self-blame. Press play, then tell us in the comments what you'd add to the list.Every time something's not working in your business, there's a reflex to fix something — change the pricing, redo the offer, hire someone, launch a new strategy. But what if the business isn't actually broken? What if you are the thing standing in the way?In this episode, we hand you the exact diagnostic framework we use with our own clients to tell the difference between a genuine business problem and a "you problem" — because the two require completely different solutions, and solving the wrong one just burns time and money. We cover:● The three-part diagnostic: the Numbers Check, the Replacement Check, and the Pattern CheckThe most common disguises a "you problem" wears — avoidance, founder dependency, policy inconsistency, and mismanaged overwhelm● A real client example: 2,500 hot leads sitting untouched, and the "you problem" hiding underneath it● Why an unaddressed "you problem" always becomes a business problem eventually — and why catching it early matters● How to be honest with yourself without spiraling into self-blame or martyrdomThis is one of the most requested conversations we have with clients, and it's the exact framework we teach inside the Badass Amplifier. Because you can't fix what you won't diagnose.Your turn: where do you think you could add to this list? Is this actually the business you want? If you're an entrepreneur who hit your revenue goals and still feel like something's off, you're not alone. In this episode of The Pursuit of Badasserie podcast, we talk about the business identity crisis that hits six- and seven-figure business owners, how to tell when you've outgrown your business, and why sunk cost, pride, and fear of judgment keep founders in the wrong business. We also cover whether to sell, close, or pivot, and the two-part question we ask clients before any big exit decision. Press play if you're wondering whether to keep going or change course. We've coached six- and seven-figure business owners who did everything “right” and still woke up one day asking the same gut-punch question: is this actually the business I want? In this episode, we unpack the identity crisis that hits entrepreneurs at every income level — the moment when the business you built no longer matches the person you've become. We talk about why more revenue, more clients, and a bigger team don't automatically mean a better business, and why staying in something out of pride, sunk cost, or fear of what other people will think is one of the most common (and expensive) traps in entrepreneurship. We share real client stories, including a seven-figure business owner who walked away from massive success to build something aligned with who she is today, and we get honest about our own experience letting go of businesses that no longer fit. In This Episode, We Cover • How to tell the difference between “I don't want this business” and “I've built a business I don't want” • Why just because you're good at something doesn't mean it should be your business • The two-part question we ask clients before any big exit or pivot decision • Why selling or closing a business isn't the only option when it's not working • How to identify what you actually like and dislike about running your business • Why holding onto a business out of sunk cost is costing you more than you think] If you've been quietly wondering whether the business you built is still the business you want, this episode will help you get honest with yourself — and figure out what to do next. Listen now, then share this with a friend who might be in this exact season. It happens to the best of us. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube or Spotify and leave us a review! ● Like the show? Here's an uncomfortable question: what if the problem you've been staring at for months isn't actually the problem? In this episode, we draw a hard line between being stuck (you're missing information or resources) and being too close (you've lost the perspective to see what's actually broken) — and we call out how often entrepreneurs mislabel the second one as the first. We've watched this play out over and over, most recently at our own Badasserie LIVE Reset, where one entrepreneur swore she was stuck while running 20 different offers with no real pipeline. She wasn't stuck. She was too close to see it.In this episode:• The real difference between “stuck” and “too close” — and why the words you use to describe your problem matter more than you think• How familiarity quietly turns dysfunction into “normal,” until you stop questioning it altogether• Why your brain builds evidence to defend a conclusion it already made — and how that keeps you fixing the wrong thing• The exit-strategy mindset: why looking at your business as if you were about to sell it exposes blind spots instantly• Using the Eisenhower Matrix to separate what's actually urgent from what just feels urgent because it's standing too close to your face• Why “you are the company you keep” applies to your business — an outside, unemotional perspective sees what your inner circle can't• How procrastination disguises itself as productivity: the research, the tweaking, the revisiting that's really just a hamster wheel"Maybe you're not stuck. Maybe you're just standing too close to it."Who this episode is for: any business owner who keeps circling the same problem and can't figure out why nothing changes.Hit play, then ask yourself the question we ask every client: if you started your business from scratch today, what would you change immediately?Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube or Spotify and leave us a review!● Like the show? We just spent six days in Bangkok with 5 women entrepreneurs — and by the end of it, one of them had uncovered a $485,000 opportunity hiding inside a business she thought she already knew inside and out. That's the Badasserie LIVE Reset: our curated, six-day business retreat built for entrepreneurs who are done working IN their business and ready to finally work ON it. This isn't a “we held a retreat and it was awesome” episode. We're pulling back the curtain on the real breakthroughs, the money decisions, and the moments that made us go, “holy crap.”In this episode, we walk you through what actually happened when we took a room full of six-figure-to-seven-figure women entrepreneurs and forced them to stop talking about their business and start rebuilding it, live, on paper, in real time.In this episode:• Why every business — solopreneur to seven figures — runs on the same core pillars (marketing, systems, foundations, goals), which is exactly why one curated container can transform wildly different businesses at once• The $485,000 revenue opportunity one entrepreneur didn't even know to look for, until she did• How another participant built a simple system to re-engage 2,500 dormant leads into a real, six-figure pipeline• The outstanding invoices collected the moment someone finally stopped avoiding the hard conversation• Our “done list, not a to-do list” philosophy — why nothing leaves the room unimplemented• The 6-week WhatsApp accountability structure built into every 90-day plan, and why the real transformation happens after the retreat ends• What it actually looks like — bonding, breakthroughs, and a little sass — when 10 women stop being nice and start being real about their businesses"We didn't take people away from their jobs for six days to just have cocktails and a fun time — though we did that too. We took them away to actually change their businesses."Who this episode is for: any entrepreneur who knows something is off in her business but hasn't found the time, or the outside perspective, to fix it.Ready to see what six focused days could do for your business? The next Badasserie LIVE Reset is calling your name — Bangkok, Manila, Melbourne, or your city, if enough badasses ask us to bring it there.Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube or Spotify and leave us a review!● Like the show?
