Hungry Ghost Month: Urban Legends, Ghost Stories & Modern Superstitions

Every year, as Hungry Ghost Month begins, millions of people across Asia follow traditions that have been passed down for centuries. Offerings are left beside roads, front-row seats remain empty for unseen guests, and children are warned never to whistle after dark. In this episode, we explore the urban legends that surround the seventh lunar month, from ghostly getai audiences and spirits lurking beneath the water to the mysterious sound of marbles rolling across apartment floors in the middle of the night. These are not forgotten folktales from the distant past, they are stories that continue to be told in some of the world's most modern cities.
