Europolis: The Global Europe Podcast by ECDPMShow Notes
Francesco Rampa, head of the Food Security programme at ECDPM, had the opportunity to speak with Nana Osei-Bonsu, CEO Private Enterprise Federation in Ghana, on the margins of the last day of the 11th CAADP Partnership Platform in Johannesburg (South Africa) on 25 - 26 March, 2015.Asked about the value of the 11th CAADP meeting, Osei-Bonsu admitted that he wanted "to see more, we have done a lot of talking...let's now start the implementation process". In his opinion, "each of the partners at the Platform needs to take their responsibility seriously and in two years, when we meet again, we will have to report on what he have implemented. It's a rude awaking but we have to take the bulls by the horns". The steel sector alone accounts for roughly 7% of global carbon dioxide emissions. If the world is serious about hitting climate targets, emissions from this heavy industry must fall by at least 50% by 2050. But the path forward is as much about geopolitics and trade as it is about technology.
Five weeks after the United States and Israel began their unilateral bombardment of Iran – with Israel also resuming aerial attacks on Lebanon – the conflict is already reshaping Europe’s external environment. Iran’s blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for around 20% of global oil flows, is driving up energy prices and tightening fertilizer markets worldwide.
