Thinking about how to supersize your creativity? Well, buckle up, because Timothy Kimo Brien has all the juicy tips you need in this episode of Create Art Podcast! We’re diving deep into the world of creativity, using Mike Brennan’s workbook, “Make Fun a Habit,” as our trusty map. Timothy kicks things off by discussing the importance of putting the fun back into our creative routines. Why? Because we all know that creativity can sometimes feel like pulling teeth, especially when the inner critic gets too cozy in our brains. So, what’s the solution? Timothy suggests a bit of self-reflection and setting some solid goals. It’s all about figuring out what you truly value and what you want to achieve, while also believing in yourself every step of the way. And let’s not forget about the power of community—surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people can make all the difference when you’re trying to push your creativity to new heights! As Timothy navigates through the workbook’s chapters, he shares some personal anecdotes about his own creative struggles and triumphs. Who doesn’t relate to feeling like a fraud every now and then? That sneaky imposter syndrome can really mess with your head! But fear not, because Timothy’s here to help us turn that around. He poses some thought-provoking questions that encourage listeners to dig deep into their own creative fears and aspirations. What does supersizing yourself mean? How can you push past those pesky fears? And what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your creative dreams? Timothy’s candid answers and reflections serve as a gentle nudge for listeners to take a closer look at their own journeys. I'm moving the Rough Sketch show to once a month because life (clients, interviews, and general chaos) is loud, and I'm using that extra space to go back to poetry — the thing that actually hooked me on art. I'm Timothy Kimo Brien, your resident instigator, and this episode is me dusting off 12 steno pads, putting pen to paper, and reading a rough sketch called "Going Back" that leans on jazz, nostalgia, and the messy, beautiful return to simplicity. The poem walks through late-night weariness, a mausoleum of depression, and the small ritual of scratching thoughts down as both warning and salvation — basically me trying to send postcards to myself from places I shouldn't have left. I talk about why prompts didn't stick, how I decided no prompt was needed, and why editing in a new way helped the work breathe. Stick around for the pieces I read, give me your honest take, and take this as your friendly nudge to tame that inner critic: create more than you consume, write a poem about what you're going through, and maybe share it with me. I'll catch you next month — same chaos, more poems. Poem: Going Back 6 Sept 2026

In the final episode of Create Anyway: You’re Allowed to Make Art, we explore a powerful question that many artists avoid: What if what you’ve done is already enough? Throughout this series, we’ve talked about fear, identity, time, responsibility, and creative pressure. But at the center of all of it is a deeper tension — the belief that we are always behind, always lacking, always needing more before our work “counts.” This episode challenges that belief. If you’ve ever felt like: You’re not good enough yet You started too late You should be further along Your work doesn’t measure up
