This Startup Plans to Save a Million Lives Using Your Toilet | Entrepreneurship | How We Profit | E7
Young and Profiting (YAP) with Hala Taha: Entrepreneurship and Self-Improvement PodcastShow Notes
Scott Hickle built Throne Science around a startup idea most investors thought was too unconventional: a device that transforms your toilet into a health tracker, monitoring your health as effortlessly as a smartwatch. After nearly 100 investor rejections, he and his team kept refining the product, driven by a mission to detect early signs of diseases like colorectal cancer before symptoms appear. That persistence helped them raise $4 million in seed funding. In this episode, Scott shares how entrepreneurs can validate unconventional products, raise capital despite rejection, and build demand in a market consumers don't yet understand.
In this episode, Hala and Scott will discuss:

Scott Hickle is the co-founder and CEO of Throne Science, a health technology company building a device that attaches to a toilet and tracks gut health, hydration, bathroom habits, and prostate health. Before Throne, Scott and his co-founder, Tim, built a nurse-staffing marketplace called Pineway before pivoting into consumer health hardware. Throne’s long-term mission is to develop technology that can help detect early signs of colon cancer, bladder cancer, and other cancers of the lower gastrointestinal and urinary tracts.

Lisa Curtis built Kuli Kuli into a $10M+ superfood business, but it took ten years to become profitable. Her biggest turning point came when she shifted focus from leading with the mission-driven messaging that makes up the core of the business to highlighting how her products directly benefited customers. That lesson now shapes Kuli Kuli's growth in Amazon's store, where sales are doubling year over year. In this episode, recorded at Amazon Accelerate 2026, Lisa explains how entrepreneurs can use Amazon's seller tools to understand customer demand, refine products before bigger launches, and drive repeat sales.
Before KIND Snacks became a multibillion-dollar brand, Daniel Lubetzky spent a decade struggling to grow his business, PeaceWorks, despite believing deeply in its mission to foster peace through commerce. Inspired by his Holocaust-survivor father, he had chosen entrepreneurship over a legal career to pursue that mission. But his passion wasn't enough to sell products, and years of poor decisions and expanding too quickly nearly forced him to give up. In this episode, the Shark Tank judge shares how he turned 10 years of failure into the launch of KIND Snacks, and how entrepreneurs can create products customers actually want, invest wisely in growth, and build strong teams without compromising their values.
Long before Yung Pueblo wrote about self-healing, he was trapped in a cycle of anxiety, scarcity mindset, and using substances to numb his emotions. Everything changed when a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation retreat helped him face the feelings he had spent years avoiding. That inner work eventually strengthened his marriage, sparked his creativity, and shaped the personal growth message he shares today. In this episode, Yung Pueblo shares how unresolved emotions affect relationships, decisions, and leadership, and how entrepreneurs can manage stress and ego rather than let them take control.
Hala Taha knew how to grow on social media, but struggled to turn attention into income. After facing major setbacks including being fired from radio and having an MTV project canceled, she shut down her website to earn her MBA and built a corporate career. Years later, guests on her side-hustle podcast began asking for LinkedIn help. That demand became an agency, which landed a $30,000 monthly client and grew to 30 paid employees within six months. In this episode, Hala joins host Jenna Kutcher on The Goal Digger Podcast to share how to grow an engaged LinkedIn audience, create content that attracts your ideal customers, and build a recognizable personal brand.
Relationships expert Adam Lane Smith has spent more than 15 years studying how insecure attachment quietly sabotages the way people communicate, handle conflict, and connect with others—both at home and in business. These fear-based patterns can strain relationships, weaken leadership, and even drive people to seek emotional connection from AI instead of the people in their lives. In this episode, Adam breaks down the major attachment styles and explains how they influence romantic relationships and entrepreneurial leadership. He also shares how to develop secure attachment and protect real human connection in the age of AI.
