NEWSROUND WITH DAVE DAVIS | PART 2
Dave Davis returns for Part 2 of Newsround on Anfield Index, focusing on Florian Wirtz's impressive second-half performance in Liverpool's dramatic 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal.
After a difficult start to his Liverpool career, the German playmaker is beginning to show exactly why the Reds invested so heavily in his talent.
Coming off the bench against Villarreal, Wirtz made an immediate difference to Liverpool's attacking play, helping Andoni Iraola's side take control of the contest before getting himself on the scoresheet.
Dave highlights how Wirtz has now registered a goal contribution in three consecutive appearances for the first time in his Liverpool career, following assists against LASK and Brentford.
But it's not just the numbers catching Dave's attention.
Wirtz's improved confidence, quick feet, successful dribbles and willingness to attack defenders are all encouraging signs that the German international is beginning to rediscover his best football.
Dave also discusses the developing understanding between Wirtz and Trey Nyoni, with the youngster's passing ability helping Liverpool move the ball forward more effectively and allowing Wirtz to operate in dangerous attacking positions.
There's also praise for Alexis Mac Allister, whose two goals against Villarreal underline his importance to Liverpool's midfield, alongside questions about the Argentine's long-term future at Anfield.
With Liverpool securing another Champions League victory, Dave considers whether Wirtz's goal could prove to be a defining moment in his development under Iraola.
Has Florian Wirtz finally turned the corner, and are Liverpool beginning to unlock the full potential of their German playmaker?
