This is the 3 rd straight year that Nebraska has started 5-1 under Matt Rhule…what is the biggest reason why this year will end differently than the others?

Early Break – 93.7 The Ticket KNTK

Show Notes

-Matt Rhule lost his first 2 games in his first year and still got back to a 5-3 record, before losing his final 4 games to miss a bowl game. Then---in 2024, 2025 and this year---he has started 5-1….ending 2024 and 2025 with a 7-6 record -Is Anthony Colandrea the biggest reason why this season will end differently than the previous 2? We have pointed out the need for him to stay healthy in saying so for that…and that’s why we view this Oregon game as huge to TRULY take the leap they’ve been ‘close’ to taking….and avoid the ‘woe is me’ conversation

-When the playoff expands to 24 teams, it will do a couple of things---make it easier to make the playoff; kill the bowl season; and, make it easier for colleges to fire their coaches—depending on buyout situation -We can complain all we want about the expansion to 24 teams, but it’s happening…is there any reason why Nebraska shouldn’t be in it every few years or what will the expectation be? How long can you wait to actually be in it and win a game and advance?

-On3 did a nice piece on Jake Dickert’s success with the Demon Deacons, pointing out that they are 6-1 so far this year (after winning 9 games the previous year)…despite having one of the lowest reported payrolls for players in college football ($13 million)…and they just beat Louisville whose payroll is reported to be around $25 million -Dickert has built his roster predominantly through the portal, identifying undervalued or underused talent---including Gio Lopez, who has been outstanding this year after a rough year at North Carolina. We all get fixated on money, money, money----why don’t we focus more on actual evaluation of players without needing all the money in the world?
