What Does It Mean to Labor in the Word?

What does it mean to labor in the word? Matthew 6:19-24 (KJV) and 1 Timothy 5:17-18: "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn." Sermon on the Mount Pt 22, hosted by Matt Hepner.

Matt recaps the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-22), then shows how Jesus says to "Labour not for the meat which perisheth" (John 6:27). The treasure hid in a field and the scribe who "bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old" (Matthew 13:44-52) lead into the faithful and wise steward of Luke 12:32-48 and "stewards of the mysteries of God" (1 Corinthians 4:1-2).

Then come the elders who "labour in the word and doctrine" (1 Timothy 5:17-18), what a true preacher looks like, the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), and why shallow preaching is a problem. The study closes with Manasseh's idolatry (2 Kings 21), Jeremiah 7, Deuteronomy 12:29-32, and King Josiah finding the lost book of the law (2 Kings 22).
