Kathleen Wilhoite Portrays Gloria Satterfield with Dignity
Murdaugh: Death in the Family Official PodcastShow Notes
In this emotional and revealing episode, journalist and executive producer Mandy Matney sits down with acclaimed actress Kathleen Wilhoite, who portrays Gloria Satterfield — one of the most heartbreaking and pivotal figures in the Murdaugh saga — in Hulu’s original series Murdaugh: Death in the Family.
Gloria wasn’t just the Murdaugh family’s housekeeper; she was a beloved caretaker, mother, and friend whose mysterious death and the millions stolen from her sons helped expose Alex Murdaugh’s long trail of deception.
Kathleen opens up about being cast without an audition, her deep dive into Gloria’s real story (and Mandy's Murdaugh Murders Podcast), and how embodying this character changed the way she views compassion, justice, and grief. Liz Farrell and Mandy Matney take us through these moments of laughter, reflection, and raw honesty while shining light on the humanity behind the headlines.
This episode also pays tribute to Amy Lacy, the show’s script supervisor, whose warmth and brilliance touched every person on set.
