In today’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley discuss Andy Burnham’s “gaffe-laden” return to Prime Minister’s Questions after the party conferences. They look at how Burnham doubled-down on his claims of Russian interference in the 2016 Brexit referendum vote after Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, challenged him about putting “his foot in his mouth”. They discuss how his firm stance against a deal with the Green Party over its “Zionism is racism” motion might lead to a rowback from the PM at a general election. They also dissect Burnham’s more sympathetic exchange with Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader. Tim deems Burnham to be “hypocritical” when factoring in his earlier praise of Badenoch for calling out Reform over some of its members’ comments on national identity and race.

More from The Daily T
On Friday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley react to the news that Thomas Markle Sr, the Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father, is being investigated for allegedly possessing child abuse images. They examine whether the Duchess’s previous behaviour and the decision to distance herself from her father is more understandable, and ask whether there is a need to reevaluate the way her relationship with her family is viewed. Our presenters also discuss the press’s relationship with the Markle family, and the fractious dynamic between the Duchess of Sussex and her two half-siblings, Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr. On Friday, Mr Markle Sr denied the allegations.
In Thursday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley are joined by Reform UK’s Danny Kruger to discuss the party’s decision to report ITV to the police over its undercover sting. The MP for East Wiltshire claims that “the law has been flagrantly broken, as in this case, outrageous deception by ITV, including breaking electoral law, pretending to be canvassers”. Kruger, Reform UK’s head of policy, who is helping prepare the party for government, also claimed that the party was facing a concerted campaign against it from the press, trade unions and even the House of Lords. He called on Conservatives and their voters to back Reform as the only realistic way for the Right to win at the next general election.
In Wednesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley analyse Andy Burnham’s defence of his record in office at Prime Minister’s Questions where he spoke about the Government’s decision to approve the Jackdaw project in the North Sea. The pair also look at the Speaker of the House of Commons’s scathing attack on Miatta Fahnbulleh, the Energy Secretary.
In Tuesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley discuss Andy Burnham’s “cringe” decision to appear on LadBible’s “Agree to Disagree” podcast, where the Prime Minister answered questions such as “Is VAR ruining football?” and “What is your favourite Oasis song?”. Camilla and Tim ask whether the Prime Minister was “fiddling while Britain burns” by focusing on “fixing little irritants” and making social media appearances rather than addressing huge issues such as youth unemployment. They are also joined by Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a former Army colonel, to discuss the £2bn cut from front-line Army equipment. He accuses Wes Streeting, the Defence Secretary, and John Healey, the Chancellor, of misunderstanding their jobs and lacking integrity over the planned cuts to defence spending.
In Monday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley discuss why the riots and looting have unfolded across France over the past few days, and how Emmanuel Macron, the French president, has reacted. Camilla and Tim debate whether Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s proposals for closer ties with the EU make sense considering the political issues and state of unrest in some of its member countries. Our presenters also weigh up the issues French protesters have been demonstrating against and how the UK is facing similar challenges. The pair further discuss how Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister, could prevent such civil disruption taking place.
