Becker’s Healthcare Podcast

Summary

Health Alliance Plan (HAP) has recently rebranded to Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health as part of a broader strategy to align more closely with its parent organization, celebrating 40 years of affiliation. Margaret Anderson, President of Health Alliance Plan, emphasized the importance of this change during an interview, highlighting a commitment to community engagement and affordable healthcare.

With a membership of approximately 510,000 in Southeast Michigan, the regional health plan aims to improve care accessibility and affordability. Anderson noted that the decision to rebrand followed extensive research that revealed stakeholders' preference for a name that reflects the connection to Henry Ford Health, aiming to leverage this recognition to enhance services.

Health Alliance Plan is focusing on innovative products like the Henry Ford Health Select—a high-performing network consisting of 13 hospitals and 550 care sites, which has attracted over 18,000 members since its launch. The organization's leadership is committed to integrating services more closely with Henry Ford Health, driving collective goals in terms of quality and access to care.

Anderson shared concerns regarding rising costs associated with advanced gene therapies, advocating for the creation of risk pools to manage these expenses sustainably. She also stressed the importance of aligning goals between health plans and providers to encourage better patient outcomes.

Looking forward, Health Alliance Plan is focused on community involvement, encouraging its employees to participate in local events, and pursuing strategic growth to reach a membership goal of 750,000. The organization is dedicated to optimizing costs while maintaining high-quality service as it navigates an evolving healthcare landscape.
