Welcome back to Reel Game Vault and another Tales From The Vault. This time, Andy looks back at two very different games that have now left the Vault and found new homes. First up is Slicks on the Commodore 64, a Codemasters budget racer that Andy first played at his cousin’s house and rediscovered years later at a car boot sale. Then it’s Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360, a game that brings back memories of teaming up with friends and trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Andy looks at the games, the people behind them, the gameplay, the reviews and, most importantly, the memories attached to both. Two games. Two stories. Two pieces of gaming history. The items may leave the Vault, but the stories stay behind.

Welcome back to Reel Game Vault — where games, films and collectibles leave the vault and take their stories with them. For Episode 2, we’re taking a trip through two very different pieces of my collection. Beyond the Forbidden Forest – Commodore 64 We head back to 1985 and explore this atmospheric C64 classic created by Paul Norman and published by Cosmi. I’ll look at the game’s unusual “OmniDimension 4-D” gameplay, the bow-and-arrow mechanics, the monsters, the Demogorgon, the Underworld and the brilliant atmosphere Paul Norman created. We’ll also look at how it compares with its predecessor, Forbidden Forest, and talk about the original packaging and instruction sheet that came with the game. And, of course, I’ll share my own memories of playing it and how this particular copy eventually ended up in the Reel Game Vault. The Prestige – Blu-ray Then we jump forward to 2006 for Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige. I’ll talk about the film’s story of obsession, rivalry and deception, the performances from Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, the incredible score and why this is one of those films that rewards repeated viewings. We’ll also take a look at the Blu-ray itself, its extras and why physical releases like this are still worth collecting. Most importantly, I’ll share my personal memories of the film and how this Blu-ray became part of my collection. Two completely different items. Two very different stories. And now… both have left the vault.
Welcome to the very first episode of Reel Game Vault! I’m Andy, and in this new series I’m opening up the Vault and taking a trip back through the retro games that have passed through my collection — the games I remember, the games I loved, and sometimes the games I’m discovering all over again. For Episode 1, we’re heading back to the Commodore 64 for two very different games that recently left the Vault together. First up is Paradroid, the 1985 C64 classic from legendary programmer Andrew Braybrook and Graftgold. We’ll look at the fascinating story behind its development, the ideas and influences that helped shape it, the ingenious robot-transfer mechanic, and why Paradroid became such a beloved C64 game. Then we head to Planet X for Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters — originally an Atari arcade game before making its way onto the C64. I’ll look back at the arcade original, the C64 conversion, the strange and wonderful sci-fi B-movie inspiration, and my own memories of playing it. Two games. Two very different approaches to retro gaming. And both have now left the Vault. So grab your joystick, load up that C64, and join me for the very first trip inside the Reel Game Vault. Games discussed: • Paradroid – Commodore 64 • Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters – Arcade & Commodore 64 Welcome to the Vault…
