Ep 871 : Comedy Gives Back With Co-Founders Zoe Friedman and Amber J. Lawson.
Dean Delray's LET THERE BE TALKShow Notes
Today on Let There Be Talk, I'm very excited to have two incredible people joining me who are doing something really important for the comedy community — Zoe Friedman and Amber J. Lawson, the co-founders of Comedy Gives Back. Comedy is supposed to make people laugh, but behind the scenes, comedians are dealing with many of the same struggles everybody else faces — mental health, addiction, financial problems, and just the pressures of trying to make a living in this business. Zoe and Amber saw that there was a real need for comedians to have somewhere to turn, and they built Comedy Gives Back to provide support, resources, and a safety net for people in the comedy community when they need it most. Today we're going to talk about how Comedy Gives Back started, why this organization is so important, what they're seeing within the comedy world right now, and what comedians can do if they're struggling or simply need some help. This is a really meaningful conversation, and I'm honored to have them here. Zoe Friedman and Amber J. Lawson, the co-founders of Comedy Gives Back — right now on Let There Be Talk. Today on Let There Be Talk, I'm sitting down with a true thrash metal legend, the one and only Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. Dave has lived one hell of a life, from helping shape the sound of heavy metal to surviving some serious battles along the way. Today, we're getting into his new book,"In My Darkest Hour" his fight with cancer, the guitars and amps that have shaped his sound, and the history of thrash metal. If you know anything about me you know I think that "Peace Sells" is one of the greatest Thrash Metal records of all time so I was really fired up to have him on the show after 13 years of trying. This is a great conversation with one of the most influential guitar players and songwriters in metal history. Dave Mustaine, today on Let There Be Talk. Welcome back to another episode of Let There Be Talk! Today I'm covering a little bit of everything. I'm talking about my recent stand-up comedy experience in Lawrence, Kansas, I'm also digging into the new album from The Temperance Movement, Which I absolutely love and can't recommend enough. I also Dive into some big news out of the metal world, with Ian Hill retiring from Judas Priest after decades of holding down the low end for one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time. And then we're getting into something that's always fascinated me: people who collect antiques and spend their lives accumulating things they believe are valuable, only to find out that nobody really wants them. Enjoy this one my friends and thank you. Today on another episode of Let There Be Talk, I'm flying solo and getting into a few things that have been rattling around in my head. First off, I finally got to meet the legendary Steven Wright. If you know comedy, you know how important this guy is. One of the most original comedians to ever step on a stage. His brain works on a completely different frequency, and getting the chance to meet him was pretty damn cool. I also want to talk about Metallica playing the Sphere in Las Vegas. Think about that for a second. Metallica, one of the biggest bands in the history of rock, taking on one of the most insane venues ever built. I love seeing this band go higher and higher this deep into their career. And then we're getting into one of my all-time favorite records, The White Stripes' White Blood Cells. Man, what a fucking record. Jack White is one of those artists who just gets it. The songwriting, the sounds, the attitude, the creativity. I've been a huge fan of everything that guy touches. Thanks for tuning in my friends and I hope to see you out on the road. Today on Let There Be Talk, my guest is my friend Scott Holiday, guitarist and songwriter for Rival Sons. I've known Scott for a long time, and it's always great sitting down with him and catching up. This time around, we're talking about something a little different — his new solo record "Topology" We get into songwriting, guitars, recording, and what it's like to be the lead singer on this record. Scott is really an amazing musician and friend, and I always enjoy hearing how he approaches music and where his head is at creatively.
