Lying awake doing the arithmetic on the hours left is the night that sends more people back in the first week than any craving. This episode is about the timeline of that sleeplessness after quitting weed: which stretch is the worst, which one feels like going backwards, and when sleeping without weed becomes better than sleeping with it. It is not about sleep aids or about the vivid dreams as a subject of their own.

- Why the body put its own sleep system on standby while weed was doing the job every night, and why it does not switch back on the moment you stop. - Days one to four: sleep that arrives slowly, in pieces or not at all, waking in the middle of the night, and why this is where most people give up. - Days five to fourteen: total sleep creeping back while the pattern stays broken, and dream sleep catching up on what it missed. - Why the second week can feel worse than the first, and why waking up exhausted from intense dreams is the recovery working, not failing. - Weeks three to six: where the night rebuilds itself, and why many people sleep better by week four to six than they did while smoking. - Who has it longer: years of daily use, weed as the only way of falling asleep, unease at bedtime, a demanding stretch of life. - What people do on the bad nights: not fighting it, out of bed after about twenty minutes awake, a cooler body an hour before bed, a low dose of melatonin or magnesium in the evening. - Whether the alarm should go off at the same time from the first morning, even after three hours, or whether the first week should sleep whenever sleep comes. That is the point of contention. - Past six to eight weeks with no improvement at all: heavier disruption than usual, or a sleep or anxiety problem the weed was sitting on top of.

This is general information, not medical advice.
