PRE-SEASON IS DONE...NOW WHAT? Tabs is back from holiday and preâseason is finally done. The games were flat, the heatwave was ridiculous, and half the squad is still recovering from the longest World Cup ever but now things get serious. Jamie joins to break down what we learned, what we didnât, and what actually matters heading into the new Premier League season. PreâSeason Overview Arsenal beat Girona, lost to Betis and Dortmund, drew with Como, and played a behindâclosedâdoors friendly. With so many players away, preâseason was more about fitness than form. Hale End kids like MLS, Dowman, Salmon and Nwaneri impressed, while Tzolis looked the most âreadyâ of the new faces. Highlights & Lowlights Tzolisâ versatility, twoâfootedness and setâpiece quality stood out. Ben Whiteâs return was important given Timber and Salibaâs absences. Meslier looked sharp and has likely overtaken Kepa as No.2. Defensive shakiness vs Betis and Dortmund was noted but contextualised; missing Rice, Saka, Saliba, Timber, Raya, Ădegaard and more. Transfers & Squad Shape This is where things get interesting. Bruno GuimarĂŁes arrives as a major reinforcement, giving Arsenal a midfield of Bruno, Merino, Zubimendi and MLS before Rice even returns. We discuss what Bruno actually offers; progression, aggression, end product, and the ability to play with or instead of Rice. MLS is now a genuine midfield option, not just a cameo kid. His presence changes rotation, changes depth, but is he surplus to requirements? Do we cash in? Rumours of touting to Chelsea & Man Utd ... there's no smoke without fire. Hale End bond v The Business of Football. Martinelliâs situation gets a proper look too: why his PL output dipped, why his Champions League numbers were elite, and why the tactical environment last season didnât suit him. With Bruno, Calafiori, Ădegaard and Havertz all fit, we talk about whether Martinelli could bounce back or do we cash in for a decent fee? We also cover the rightâhand side of defence: Mosquera + White will be the pairing until Saliba and Timber return. We talk about how that might hold up, and what type of reinforcements may be needed Are Arsenal Ready? Probably not fully; but neither is anyone else. The World Cup has left the entire league undercooked. Arsenalâs opening fixtures (Coventry, Villa, Chelsea, Brighton, Sunderland) will require patience and smart rotation. The key is not giving rivals a legâup and managing fitness carefully. Nine or ten points from the first five games, plus beating Chelsea, would be a strong start. Community Shield Preview Still technically preâseason, but a useful test. Arsenal will be leggy, City will be leggy, and the result wonât define anything but it will be fun to win and will give clues about earlyâseason combinations. Closing Preâseason is done. The real stuff starts now. Arsenal look settled, experienced, and ready to grind through the early fixtures before hitting stride. As always: like, subscribe, follow @thegroveafc, and enjoy the ride. Arsenal won at Forest, but the performance sparked a bigger question: are the Gunners winning the right way, or just surviving on moments? Tabs and Andy break down the 1-0, the late drama, and the tactical frustration that made a routine away win feel strangely tense. The result keeps Arsenal rolling, but the first half at Nottingham Forest was flat and ponderous. Why do big stretches of games keep drifting? Why does the team seem to wait until the second half to change gear? And why did this one feel like the kind of match Arsenal had to grind out? Tabs and Andy debate the lineup, including the midfield choice between Bruno GuimarĂŁes and Myles Lewis-Skelly, and assess Eberechi Ezeâs performance, Noni Maduekeâs impact off the bench, Arsenalâs attacking approach, and the teamâs recent set-piece threat. They also discuss whether patient possession is wearing opponents down, or giving them too much time to get organised. The conversation turns to Arsenalâs upcoming Champions League test against Bayern Munich: how the Gunners might handle a more open game, what Bayernâs attacking threat means, and whether Arsenal can make the most of the space behind a high line. A thoughtful Arsenal match reaction for fans looking for Premier League analysis, tactical discussion, and an honest conversation about the teamâs style of play.
