2026 Week 8 TNF Recap: Packers Play With Their Food, Outlast Panthers
NFL Daily with Gregg RosenthalSummary
The Green Bay Packers secure a 27-19 victory over the Carolina Panthers in a Thursday night football matchup, improving their record to 5-3. Quarterback Jordan Love shines, throwing three touchdown passes and nearly reaching 300 yards, despite some struggles from his receivers, particularly Matthew Golden, who had multiple drops. The Packers' defense also plays a crucial role, sacking Panthers quarterback Bryce Young six times and limiting Carolina's offense to no plays over 20 yards.
The Panthers, now at 3-4, face mounting challenges, particularly with their offensive line struggling to protect Young. The team's inability to establish a running game, with Josh Jacobs averaging under two yards per carry, exacerbates their problems. Despite some early momentum with a mix of tempo and heavier personnel, the Panthers fail to capitalize, leading to a disappointing performance that raises concerns about their ability to compete in a tough NFC South.
As the Packers look ahead to a challenging schedule that includes matchups against stronger teams, they must address their own weaknesses, particularly in the running game and special teams. The Panthers, meanwhile, need to find solutions to their offensive line issues to regain their early-season optimism.
