This is one of the widest-ranging conversations in the series. Nolan Saumure (Seal On Tour) starts with gratitude and the specific video that made everything click for him as a creator, then moves through a second trip to India, and how a side hustle slowly became his main hustle. He talks about what he sees as the good side of Pakistan, then goes deep on Iraq — traveling there with fellow creator SmallBrainedAmerican, describing Iraqis as some of the sweetest and most generous people he’s met, and making the case that Baghdad is far more modern and progressive than most people assume, even with visible infrastructure and some remnants of war still present. His core takeaway: people are not their governments.
From there he covers going to Afghanistan in 2024, working with a local guide and a translator, and visiting what’s been called the Grand Canyon of Afghanistan. He shifts to a lighter story — getting robbed during Carnaval in Rio, where the police reportedly found the whole thing funny — before getting into Brazil’s favelas and why he believes tourism is actually making some of them safer. He also touches on what his parents think of what he does for a living, calling parts of this world “the Wild West,” and explains why he’s actually glad he had a gun pulled on him in Colombia and how that experience changed his approach.
The conversation gets more intense from there: a trip to West Papua, Indonesia, where he met members of a tribe associated with cannibalism — he’s careful to clarify, “they didn’t want to eat me” — and describes talking directly with someone from that community who was, in his words, excited to talk about it. He unpacks just how diverse Indonesia is as a country, from Sharia law in the northwest to tribal communities in West Papua in the east who mummify and preserve their leaders. He also discusses the Aghori, an ascetic group in India sometimes associated with extreme practices, and is candid that he finds the topic of cannibalism insanely dark even while documenting it respectfully.
He closes by talking about going on Piers Morgan’s show, where Piers reportedly gave him a hard time for traveling to Afghanistan, and what Nolan found genuinely sad there, including the realities of gender apartheid under the current regime. He wraps with lighter territory: visiting remote tribes in the Amazon, including the Guarani, and answering the question everyone asks — how monkey actually tastes, and what chicha is like.
