Show Notes
Today’s episode of Finding Flow focuses on early breast cancer diagnosis and how it affects the trajectory of someone’s life. Many people believe that you can “go back to normal” once you have rung the bell. However, this diagnosis and the treatment undertaken inevitably influence your future.
In this two-part episode, we sit down with Trish Michelle, the Chief Community Officer of the Breasties. She discusses how her medical team made certain decisions for her, and she didn't receive the full range of options that would influence her life post-treatment. She found that she needed to find others who understood the massive shift her life had gone through. It was through finding community that helped give her experience a larger meaning and purpose.
We then get guidance from Dr. Eleonora Teplinsky, a board-certified medical oncologist and the Head of Breast and Gynecologic Medical Oncology at Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive. She has a new book, Beyond the Pink: Navigating Life, Health, and Breast Cancer, which highlights the importance of treating the whole person: mentally, physically, and aspirationally. She understands how to handle the emotional aspects of this diagnosis, how to ask strong questions about what they want their future to look like, and how to prepare for life post bell.
