Alcohol consumption is a major contributor to preventable illness, injury, and mortality worldwide. While long-term regulatory approaches such as taxation and availability controls are widely studied, governments also frequently introduce short-term alcohol policies in response to acute events, including public health emergencies, elections, and large-scale gatherings. These temporary measures are often implemented rapidly, with varying objectives and limited evaluation of their outcomes.
