Hello everyone! We have an update to share about Molly Movie Club, and how it will change going forward. We’re heading into a really busy time here at Molly Rocket. It has gotten harder for us to make time to record and edit a new episode of the Movie Club every week. We’ve decided that we’re no longer going to post weekly podcasts. We will still post episodes, but they’ll be on a more random and inconsistent schedule. Because of this, we will be turning off paid subscriptions. Those with monthly subscriptions will no longer be charged, and those who paid for a yearly subscription will receive a refund from Substack. To those who have been members of Molly Movie Club, we really appreciate your support! We will open up comments to everyone, so continue posting your thoughts on the movies we watch in the future! And also feel free to keep suggesting movies! We won’t be doing themed months anymore, but we still want to hear your movie recommendations. Thanks for listening to Molly Movie Club! -Casey & Anna

More from Molly Movie Club
Today’s episode is a little bit different than usual. As part of the Kickstarter for our graphic novel series Meow the Infinite, we promised our backers we would make a special “Making of” podcast. We figured it made sense to post it to our Molly Movie Club podcast feed! For those unfamiliar, Meow the Infinite is an all-ages graphic novel adventure series that spans over 700 pages total. Meow is inspired by the movies we grew up watching, and our love for classic adventure films of the 80s and 90s (if you’re a long-time listener of Molly Movie club, you’ll know we love movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, and E.T. The Extraterrestrial). Meow is our attempt to capture a little bit of that magic. We started working on it back in 2017, and the Kickstarter campaign for the final book ran last year. We’re so happy that the story is finally complete and available for everyone to read. If you are just hearing about Meow the Infinite for the first time and want to check it out, we have digital versions available for purchase worldwide, and physical copies of Book One, Book Two, and Book Three available on Amazon in the US. As always, thanks for listening. We’ll be back soon with another regular episode of Molly Movie Club!
Today’s movie is The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan. Long-time listeners of Molly Movie Club will know our mixed feelings on Christopher Nolan’s movies, and The Odyssey is no different… except, it is. The cinematography (something that Nolan and DP Hoyte van Hoytema usually excel at) was surprisingly bad, while things Nolan often struggles with were actually pretty good. Overall, we think it’s a movie worth seeing, despite some major flaws. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Molly Movie Club!
Today’s movie is The Neverending Story directed by Wolfgang Petersen. This movie is part of our Kickstarter promo series, where we watch movies that are related in one way or another to our graphic novel trilogy Meow the Infinite. The campaign for the final book is now live on Kickstarter! If you enjoy the podcast, please consider checking it out! We both like aspects of The Neverending Story, but ultimately the movie fails to deliver. It starts out strong, with an engaging story and creative visuals, but it’s ultimately let down by an unfocused plot that seems completely confused about what the movie is trying to say. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Molly Movie Club!
Today’s movie is Bridge to Terabithia directed by Gábor Csupó. This movie is part of our Kickstarter promo series, where we watch movies that are related in one way or another to our graphic novel trilogy Meow the Infinite. The campaign for the final book is now live on Kickstarter! If you enjoy the podcast, please consider checking it out! We were both pleasantly surprised by this 2007 Disney movie. While the novel did all of the heavy lifting for the story, this movie is a faithful adaptation that successfully captures the spirit of the original. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Molly Movie Club!
Today’s movie is The Lego Movie, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. This movie is part of our Kickstarter promo series, where we watch movies that are related in one way or another to our graphic novel trilogy Meow the Infinite. The campaign for the final book is now live on Kickstarter! If you enjoy the podcast, please consider checking it out! For us, everything is very much not awesome in The Lego Movie. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Molly Movie Club!
