Enda McNulty - Training the Mind Like a Muscle

Our guest for Season 5, Episode 5 of the GAA Minor Moments podcast with Electric Ireland is former Armagh footballer and renowned sports performance psychologist, Enda McNulty.

In this episode, Enda McNulty explores his fascinating journey through the GAA, from his formative Minor years to competing at Senior level. He reflects on his early struggles with self-belief as a teenager, sharing a defining epiphany on his school bus that led him to realise confidence is a muscle that must be actively trained.

Enda openly discusses the pivotal moments that shaped his career, including how Armagh’s 1994 All-Ireland Minor semi-final defeat served as a vital wake-up call regarding mental preparation and resilience.

Enda delves into his progression into sports psychology, recounting how key mentors like Tom Savage taught him the power of effective communication and asking the crucial question: "So What?".

He shares his professional experiences working with teams like the Irish and Leinster rugby squads. Offering invaluable advice to today's Minor players, Enda highlights persistence, dedication, and a growth mindset as the ultimate keys to success, encouraging young athletes to focus on winning the daily battle of self-improvement rather than just the scoreboard.
