Radiant Others: A Klezmer Music Podcast

Show Notes

Hi Everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Radiant Others! I’m really glad we’re rolling again with new episodes and this one is a good one. Christina Crowder is an accordionist, and an important researcher of klezmer, Romanian and Moldavian musics. She’s great to play with, and great to hang out with. We go deep into her life and her time in Europe, and coming back here afterwards in the US. I learned so much from this conversation, and I hope you will too. Many of the recordings you’ll hear on this episode are from field recordings that Christina made herself while she lived in Romania. Others are of her and her band Bivolita. Check out more about her and the band at http://www.bivolita.com/ And here are some links to people, places and topics that come up in the episode: Bob Cohen and Di Naye Kapelye (The great Budapest klezmer band that Christina co-founded) Author and Scholar Ruth Ellen Gruber Hungarian Klezmer Ensemble Muzikás’ record of Hungarian Jewish Music Maramureș, the region where Christina and John did their research Lăutari Music
