Mining the Congo w/ Josaphat Musamba, Germain Ngoie Tshibambe, & Ben Radley (AR&D Ep.10)
Guerrilla HistoryShow Notes
With this episode of Guerrilla History, we bring you another fascinating episode in our series African Revolutions and Decolonization. This time, a big episode on mining in Congo - extraction, exploitation, environmental and economic impacts, as well as the history, regional variations, and the difference between industrial mining and artisanal mining in Congo. For this, we are lucky to be joined by Ben Radley as a guest host, and two excellent guests from the Congo - Josaphat Musamba and Germain Ngoie Tshibambe. Given their academic work on this, plus Josaphat's actual experience as a miner himself, we could not ask for a better group to unpack this! Share widely to help others understand this remarkably pivotal industry. Also be sure to check out our two previous episodes from the series on the Congo (The First, and The Second). Lastly, check out the Centre of Expertise on Mining Governance.
Josaphat Musamba is a Congolese researcher, and is a Ph.D. student at Ghent University. Check out Josaphat's twitter @MusambaJosaphat and his ResearchGate profile.
Germain Ngoie Tshibambe is a full professor at the University of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he teaches international relations and is the Head Advisor of the Rector's Cabinet. Check out his Academia page and ResearchGate profile.

In this episode of Guerrilla History, we are joined by returning guest Immanuel Ness (fan favorite whom you will remember from our episodes Migration as Economic Imperialism, Political Traitors and Sellouts, Sanctions As War, Workers Movements in the Global South, and more!) to discuss his great new book Dialectics of Chinese Labor (please note, there is a free download of the book available through this link)! This is a fascinating work, and a terrific discussion, as conversations with Manny always are. Be sure to share the episode, and also download the book and give it a read! Immanuel Ness is Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College, City University of New York and Visiting Professor of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg. He is the author or editor of numerous works including Organizing Insurgency: Workers' Movements in the Global South, Southern Insurgency: The Coming of the Global Working Class, and The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Imperialism and Anti-Imperialism. We have episodes with him about many of these, so check out our catalogue!

In this impromptu Dispatch episode of Guerrilla History, Adnan and Henry sit down to discuss the recent open letter published in the Guardian, "To Iran's political prisoners, trapped 'between two blades of a scissors'", signed by many notable members of the Western Left. While unplanned as a result of having to reschedule a guest last minute, this topic was chosen because both Adnan and Henry had already spoken on this topic independently, and we thought that having a collaborative discussion on it would further develop our respective analyses further. To listen to Adnan's other discussion on this topic, you can watch "Three Cheers for "Hollow Anti-Imperialism"! w/Sina Rahmani" on the Adnan Husain Show YouTube channel. For Henry's discussion, you can find "Comment - The Western Left On Iranian Political Prisoners" on our patreon.
