Latest Stories from The Associated PressSummary
Federal authorities have indicted Virginia State Senator L. Louise Lucas for allegedly leading a criminal enterprise involved in the acquisition and distribution of large quantities of marijuana, as well as laundering the proceeds. The indictment, which was unsealed on Thursday, charges Lucas along with six other defendants, including several family members. FBI Director Kash Patel describes the operation as a multi-year scheme aimed at enriching what he refers to as the Lucas Enterprise.
The charges follow an FBI search of Lucas's district office and a cannabis shop in which she has a financial interest. Attorney General Todd Blanche addressed the media, stating that the indictment reflects the actions of a public servant who prioritized personal financial gain over her responsibilities to the community. In response to the allegations, Lucas's social media account did not directly address the charges but emphasized her determination not to be intimidated or bullied.
