Show Notes
Our second anniversary and our 100th show. To mark the occasion professional lens designer, Jason Lane has returned and this time you get to see the software that Karl, Johnny and Simon were raving about in Karl’s final show, Episode #64. So here’s something of a first for us, a podcast designed to be watched on Youtube, rather than just listened to as an audio file. Having moved away from highly technical shows, here’s one for those people that want to get down and dirty at the lens element scale as Jason gives an insight into the world of lens design. So, after a summer break, it’s time again to brush up on your 2nd Grade classical history and moderately-sized furry mammal knowledge as it will be required to get the most out of this episode. Off topic we discuss the Fujinon 55mm f/2.2 and a potential clone, the new Voigtlander (is it a) Heliar 50mm f/1.5 (how can it be if it’s f/1.5 and six elements!), and how to manage a house move with a large camera collection.

A slew of Vivitar purchases by Simon is the inspiration for a Vivitar special show where we give something of a potted history of the once great American lens brand. Whilst Vivitar has always been at the value end of the lens market, many of their lenses punched well beyond their weight. We discuss our collective experiences (well Johnny and Simon do...) of Vivitar lenses and pick our favourites and bargain buys. Classic Lenses Podcast Presents: Cocaine & Waffles A Podcast Experiment by Mike Eckman and Johnny Sisson
In July, 2019 (Episode #77), we thoroughly enjoyed having the rare talent that is Isabel Curdes on the show, so we are delighted to able to maroon her on our desert island with 4 special lenses and two cameras (one is a big digital camera with a stupid shutter speed dial (if you're Simon and have weird issues with shutter speed dials.)) Isabel's picks are pretty stellar, which is not surprising seeing how many lenses she's gone through over the years. As well as getting to know Isabel's lenses better, we also have a quick chat about the automated mounted slide "scanning" device, the Cameradactyl BoopBoop Trigger and give definitive advice to Graeme Jago in his hunt for a new Cheap Shot Challenge camera...ISABEL CURDES Website | Twitter | InstagramLINKS Mamiya 80mm f/1.9 SMC Pentax 67 105mm f/2.4 Hermagis Eidoscope Fuji GFX 50R Graflex Speed Graphic Sunny 16 Podcast I dream Of Cameras Podcast Cameradactyl BoopBoop Trigger LISTEN TO THE PODCAST Pobean | iTunes | Stitcher TAGS#CLP143 #IsabelCurdes #DesertIslandLenses SUPPORT THE PODCAST Donate on Ko-fi CONTACT Send ideas & questions for the podcast EMAIL LIST Sign-up to receive an email when each podcast goes live INSTAGRAM BestVintageLens | #classiclenses | #bestvintagelens MERCHANDISEOfficial Classic Lenses Podcast Swag FOLLOW THE HOSTS Simon Forster Website | Ebay | Flickr | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | LFPP Perry GeWebsite | Flickr | Instagram Johnny Sisson Instagram | Central Camera Company | Kodak Bantam Special Looks Like a Pimp BE LIKE KARLKarl Havens The Karl Havens Excellence Endowment | Flickr | Instagram PODCAST THEME Octoblues Royalty Free Music by Kevin Macleod Classic Lenses Podcast is (not) Sponsored by Jeppson's Malört The Goatsecx of Liquors Fuckyoswag Chicago Media ProductionJ.D.
