For over a decade, Lisa LaFlamme was the anchor of the CTV National News. She earned the trust of Canadians through dedication and relentless reporting. Then her grey hair led to a firestorm over sexism in the media. LaFlamme joins Christy Clark for an intense interview about LaFlamme’s 35-year journalism career and beyond: Starting out in her hometown of Kitchener, covering 9/11 on only her second day as Canada AM co-host, advice for new journalists, the plight of girls in downtrodden countries, and the need for women to stick together. She is also animated about how women are unfairly judged on their appearance especially as they get older. She experienced this firsthand at CTV when she let her grey hair grow during the pandemic. Her controversial and abrupt departure kicked off a national conversation about how women are unfairly hung out to dry as they age. Today LaFlamme is working hard training a new generation of media in the developing world with Journalism for Human Rights, and warning that disinformation is damaging our ability to separate truth from lies. She is also fighting another battle against AI deepfakes on social media that use her image and credibility to sell everything from gummies to crypto. Yet you’ll be surprised about where she sees hope. One thing is for sure: there is never a dull moment in LaFlamme’s life.

If you hike, run, snowboard, do yoga or any other fitness routine, you have probably done it in high-quality attire made by fashion business legend Chip Wilson. The outspoken Canadian entrepreneur rose to fame through the Lululemon clothing brand he started, but at 71, he is still launching new businesses. Wilson joins Christy Clark for a wide-ranging chat: his youth bouncing between the U.S. and Canada, his first big payday as a labourer on an Alaskan pipeline, the competitive streak that drove him to be an entrepreneur, and the women he calls “supergirls” who found enriching careers at Lululemon, why he chose to stay in Canada to run his businesses, his tolerance for risk, being willing to fail and get back up, and his struggle with a form of muscular dystrophy. Wilson is noted for his blunt talk and dropping truth bombs, and he does not disappoint. You will want to hear how he feels about Canada’s political drift toward Europe and what he calls “suicidal empathy” holding our society back.

For this episode, Christy explores what Hillary Clinton, Stormy Daniels, Elizabeth Holmes and so many other women who’ve ended up in the media crosshairs have in common with journalist, author and screenwriter Amy Chozick. As an award-winning New York Times reporter, Chozick spent years covering two-time US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Her acclaimed memoir Chasing Hillary explores how women of ambition are dismissed as inauthentic and pushy, and mostly judged by their flaws instead of their achievements. Christy Clark talks to Chozick about her first novel, With Friends Like You, probing a woman’s search for an old friend while struggling with motherhood and lost identity. They explore how the novel was partially inspired by adult star Stormy Daniels, as well as the complexity and competitiveness of female friendships, why people dislike Lauren Sanchez Bezos for enjoying her wealth more than her husband Jeff, and why it’s so hard for the public to accept that women can be intelligent and sexy at the same time, like the Kardashians. And she has a surprising prediction about who will be the first female U.S. President. 🔔 Subscribe and like The Christy Clark Show for more thoughtful conversations with interesting people shaping our world. The Canada-U.S. trade war is now going full tilt, and Kim Haakstad is on the front line. She is the President of the B.C. Council of Forest Industries and one of the most powerful people in Canada’s resource sector. For the past 30 years, Haakstad has worked tirelessly in advocating for economic growth in western Canada, and there’s never been a dull moment. She has spent much of her time in Washington D.C. over the summer in representing the forestry sector in supporting Canada’s negotiating team in trying to hammer out a trade deal with its biggest customer - the USA and President Donald Trump. Haakstad tells Christy that while U.S. trade and tariff threats are her top concern, there’s a lot more Canada can be doing to help resource industries succeed, including sensible regulation and conservation policy.
