"How to Navigate Reforms in NDIS and Aged Care" with Trystan Conway
Practiceology "7 Questions in 7 Minutes" PodcastShow Notes
In this episode of the Practiceology™ Podcast, I spoke to with Trystan Conway to discuss the real-world challenges and strategies for allied health businesses dealing with ongoing reforms in the NDIS and aged care sectors.
Here are my top three takeaways for anyone in allied health or government-funded service delivery:
🔹 Proactive beats reactive
Too many practices put their head in the sand when it comes to regulatory changes. Instead, model out worst-case scenarios and have a plan—hoping things will sort themselves out is not a strategy.
🔹 Focus on what you can control
Government funding changes and reforms are highly emotive and often outside your control. Stay grounded by focusing on what you can influence: your business structure, your value proposition, and your internal processes.
🔹 Diversification is key
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Having all your revenue tied to a single funding stream (like NDIS paediatrics) is risky. Explore ways to diversify your services or client base to better weather any future upheaval.

Just released the latest Practiceology 7 Questions in 7 Minutes Podcast featuring Stephen Franson, founder of The Remarkable Practice, to share strategies for building a scalable, profitableand remarkable allied health business. Whether you're launching, building, scaling, or planning your exit, this conversation is packed with practical insights for health professionals aiming to stop working “in” their business and start working “on” it. Including details of Stephen's upcoming "Remarkable Practice Immersions". Top 3 Takeaways: 🔑 Systems Are Everything: As Stephen explains, a business is only scalable, durable, and transferable if you have robust systems in place—for attraction (marketing), conversion, retention, team building, and collections. Without these, you’re just building yourself a bigger job, not a business. 🔑 Diagnose Your Constraints: Many owners try to out-hustle their way past bottlenecks, but according to Stephen , the only way to achieve growth is to identify and directly address your biggest operational constraints, not just work around them. 🔑 Wear the Right Hat: Being a health business owner means mastering three identities: the doctor, the operator, and the business owner. Each requires different skills and focus—knowing which “hat” to wear and when is critical for success.
