Saturday 10 October 2026 Morning Prayer for Saturday in Ordinary Time
Daily Prayer: Common Worship Morning and Evening PrayerSummary
The service of morning prayer commemorates Paul Linus, a 7th-century bishop and missionary. The prayers express a deep yearning for God's presence and a commitment to praise and worship. The congregation reflects on the significance of the new day and the light of God's presence igniting love in their hearts.
The readings include a passage from the second book of Kings, detailing the reign of King Josiah and the eventual fall of Israel due to their disobedience to God. The narrative highlights Israel's idolatry and rebellion, leading to their exile by the Assyrians. The text emphasizes the consequences of turning away from divine commandments and the warnings given by prophets throughout their history.
In the New Testament reading from Acts, Paul addresses local Jewish leaders, explaining his situation and sharing the message of Jesus. Despite some resistance, he continues to teach about the kingdom of God, emphasizing that salvation is also intended for the Gentiles. The service concludes with prayers for guidance, healing, and a call for unity among believers, inspired by the missionary efforts of Paulinus.
