THE BEATMASTERS – WHO’S IN THE ACID HOUSE
This episode of Turn The Beat Around paid tribute to one of the most inventive production teams to emerge from late‑80s London: The Beatmasters. Across the hour, we explored how Manda Glanfield, Paul Carter and Richard Walmsley stepped out of the commercial jingle world and helped shape the sound of early British house and hip‑house.
The special traced their rise from underground club innovators to chart‑breaking hitmakers, revisiting genre‑defining singles including “Rok Da House,” “Burn It Up,” “Hey DJ / I Can’t Dance…” and “Who’s In The House.” We also spotlighted their transition into one of the UK’s most in‑demand production teams, contributing to major releases for Pet Shop Boys, Tina Turner, Yazz and their chart‑topping work with The Shamen.
Across the hour, we celebrated the trio’s fearless fusion of rap, house, pop and rave energy — a sound that cracked open the UK charts and left a permanent mark on club culture.
